JIM MORRISON'S GRAVE 1981, Pere Lachaise Cemetary, Paris, France
BUST of JIM MORRISON
This photo is dated 07/07/1981 - 4 days after the installation of the bust created. I think it is currently only available on the WWW without graffiti.
The bust of Jim Morrison by Croation sculptur Mladen Mikulin was placed at the Pere Lachaise Cemetary gravesite in 1981 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Morrison's death.
The bust remained at the grave until March 1988, when it was stolen without a trace - by then, the gravesite had become covered in graffiti. Cemetery staff subsequently cordoned off the plot with metal barricades a few years ago, and numerous other tombstones, vandalized with arrows labeled "Jim" that directed the way to the grave, have since been wiped clean.

Without a doubt, this is the best consist I've seen on a CN road train in quite a long time! A BC Rail C40-8M, a IC SD70, a CN C40-8 and a CN SD70M-2 team up to lead a manifest east down the IHB in LaGrange Park, IL. Kinda funny how we ran across this guy. The crossing gates went down here, we ran up to the crossing, and imagine my surprize when I saw the double ditch lights.
Sometimes..it comes like a wave over me...no hands...
I run at different direccions at the same time..get exchausted and finally it ends by ..no hands..

External flash without control power in the top of lightbox
Photocell to trigger external flash
Integrated Flash Manual mode 1 / 128 power

Lightbox
Control total.
-Modo manual:
Máxima velocidad de sincronización 1/200.
(No necesitas tripode)

"What would your good do if evil didn't exist, and what would the earth look like if all the shadows disappeared? After all, shadows are cast by things and people. Here is the shadow of my sword. But shadows also come from trees and from living beings. Do you want to strip the earth of all trees and living things just because of your fantasy of enjoying naked light?"
Bulgakov -- "the Master and Margarita"
Any more contrast and there would be no shadow... only black and white... but where's the fun in that?

St Sepulchre without Newgate, Holborn Viaduct, London
Also St Sepulchre Holborn, also St Sepulchre Old Bailey - these were the bells of Old Bailey that asked when can you pay me? - this is one of the biggest churches in the City. No other City church has so much the air of the most important church in a smaller, provincial town - and probably as so often in the City, an East Anglian town, as the south porch with its fan vaulting suggests, we could be in Saxmundham, or Swaffham, or Coggleshall, or March. But on stepping inside there is the reminder that this church has virtually no resident parishioners, for instead of the highly polished, flower-bedecked small town civic pride we'd find in Saxmundham, or Swaffham, or Coggleshall, or March, here is a great dusty space full of disconnected once-proud details, like a rich aunt who has gone awry. And yet it is an entirely loveable church for all that, and many people's City favourite, not least because the Gothic exterior contains an entirely Wrenish interior - or, at least, the spirit of Wren without the letter, shoehorned into a medieval space. This is a rich aunt who at first sight has stopped taking care of herself, but the person she has become is admirable for her eccentricity and intelligence. There's nothing quite like it, and it makes you smile.
How did this happen? Well, the medieval church, which had been rebuilt on a grand scale in the 15th Century, was largely destroyed in the Great Fire, but the reconstruction was something of a mish-mash, with Wren falling out with the vestry. There was a revamp in the late 18th Century when they tried to get rid of the bits that still made it look medieval, and then a big one in the 1870s to make it more medieval than it had ever been, which is pretty much how you see it today. The interior you step into is largely 19th Century, but full of colour and interest. This is one of those churches where there is always something around the next corner. The range of 20th Century glass is one of the most comprehensive in the City, and the best of it is in the north aisle, the musicians' chapel, by Brian Thomas. Other glass is by Francis Skeat, AK Nicholson and GER Smith (a memorial window to AK Nicholson, including an image of him in his workshop).
The organ is fabulous. Sir Henry Wood, who invented the Proms, was the organist here, and is remembered in the musician's chapel in post-war glass along with the likes of George Frederich Handel, William Byrd, John Ireland and Dame Nellie Melba. There is a memorial to Captain John Smith, remembered as the governor of Virginia, but more familiar to us in our Disneyfied times as the lover of Pocahontas. He's buried here. Wayland Young mentions the tradition that the bells of St Sepulchre not only tolled the curfew each night, but also tolled as condemned men passed from the Newgate prison to the scaffold at Tyburn. A church full of stories then, a bit mad, all a bit disconnected, a must-see.

Wide-angle/fisheye view of the river's falls/rapids from the midpoint of the bridge. Due to recent rains and flooding, the river was higher and much more turbulent than normal -- it looked like the water was practically boiling!
The Androscoggin River separates the towns of Brunswick and Topsham, Maine. The early history of the river included the plentiful salmon and sturgeon that were caught by the Pejepscot Indians. Settlers built the first dam across the river in 1753 and 25 saw mills were built between the towns of Brunswick and Topsham by 1820.
In addition to having had the first cotton mill in the state of Maine, Brunswick is the home to Bowdoin College and as a result of her husband serving as a professor there, Harriet Beecher Stowe wrote "Uncle Tom's Cabin" while living there. Also, a scene for the 1993 movie "The Man Without a Face" was filmed in the town.

I just came in after taking some photos. At least spring arrived and it's a must to make some pictures of this beautiful little cherry flowers. Used my new lense Nikor 70-300, this time without the extension tube. Handhold, cropped, only.

Fairhaven Historic DIstrict
Bellingham, Washington
A bronze sculpture of Mark Twain seated on a bench was installed on Saturday, May 26 in front of Village Books and Paper Dreams on 11th Street in Historic Fairhaven District of Bellingham, WA.
In August 1895, Samuel Clemens – better known as Mark Twain – visited Fairhaven. Artist Gary Lee Price’s life-sized bronze sculpture of Twain seated on a bench, reading a book, joins similar nearby sculptures of Fairhaven founder Dirty Dan Harris and community leader J.J. Donovan.
Donated by community member Michael Botwin to the City of Bellingham and Village Books, the bench has space so visitors can sit awhile with the legendary writer and humorist.

A 3 year old teacher with a very energetic class has had to come up with some very creative ways to give the children time to "blow-off steam" and get some exercise on a day when it was too cold to go outside. Under COVID we can no longer use our shared indoor gross motor rooms. Skating indoors in the classroom is a messy, but enormously fun activity!

A rather crude tombstone dating to 1756 with the grim reaper in full swing. More on this can be found here: cemeteries-and-burials.blogspot.com/2011/01/grim-skeleton...
This burial can be found in Krämarkapellet - The Merchant's chapel. It was built some time after 1450, by the merchants of the city, with the official name of St Jörgens chapel (St Jörgen is the Danish name for St George - who is depicted on one of the walls). The chapel has a fine set of paintings on the walls and the in the ceiling, unlike the rest of the church which is all white - the way it was painted after the Reformation.
St Peter's church (or St Petri, as the Danish and Swedish name is) was built in the beginning of the 14th century, a Gothic church made of bricks, replacing an older, Romanesque, from the beginning of the 13th century, before Malmö was even a town and just a small village. The high altar of the Gothic church was consecrated in 1319, though work probably continued for a while longer.
In 1529 the church was overrun by people caught up in the Reformation who caused quite a havoc, removing all traces of the Catholic faith - Malmö, under the direction of Claus Mortensen, was a stronghold for the Reformation at the time. Being buried in the church was very popular after the Reformation and after 1666 all the slots were taken in the floor, which meant that the only way to get a place was to buy an already used one - and burial plots became quite an investment. 1783 it became forbidden to sell and buy those slots - and in 1822 it became forbidden to bury people inside of churches - due to sanitation laws. In 1858 the church was renovated and almost all tombstones were buried underneath a new floor. But in a subsequent renovation, in the beginning of the 20th century, the stones were rescued from obscurity, and many placed in the Krämarkapellet to keep them protected.
In the heart of Sirok Sokak stands quiet and still the catholic church Sacred Heart of Jesus. Sparkled by the sun rays, without a word, but proud, it lasts, arouse toward the sky, toward God. It warmth the souls, it spreads the God’s word. It comforts and heals, simply caresses. Only the faith in God, in Jesus Christ can give so much power.
The spiritual life of the population and the faith in God, in this region is with a long past. It can be followed from the prehistoric period until today. Polytheist, Orthodox, Catholics, Muslims one after the other but yet, side by side.
The French missioners Lazarists, from the congregation of St. Vinko Pavelski, began their duty in the region during the 18th century. With the increased number of Catholics, as a result of the opening of the numerous Consulates, foreign officials (employees), tradesman, as well as the members of their families, a need of constant presence of a priests appeared. He was supposed to take care of all the spiritual needs, spiritual and educational knowledge of the children as well as the rest of the believers. This condition brought the situation that in 1848 / 49 to be set a permanent priest whose stay in Bitola was very short. The French Lazarist played the most important role in the formation of the first Catholic Parish in Bitola in 1856. The founder of the Parish was Father Zan - Zosef Lepavek, who from the day of his arrival took the total care of the spiritual life of the believers.
The architectural plan for the Catholic Church was made by a French architect, but realized by the Macedonian builders. The interior of the church is consisted by three altars, a large number of icons and statues with a various size, baptisteries as well as sitting benches for the believers. The main altar by chestnut three, build in gothic German style was made in Munich, Germany. Other two smaller altars are made in new - gothic French style. The new altar as well as the amvon was made in 1975 of nuts three, and it was made by one of the finest craftsmen in Bitola, Gorgi Karadzov.
The most dominant statue of all is the statue of Holy Heart of Jesus, placed in the centre of the main altar.
The church bell tower was building in 1938 - 1940, and it is a gift by the Slovenian believers.
The care for the believers remains constant during the whole existence of the Catholic Church. The trught is most recognized in the vibrations of the voice while it speaks the God’s prayers. The Liturgy in Macedonian language that echoed in the rooms of the Catholic Church for about thirty years fills this temple with warmth and makes it one with us, one with God.
