Latin name: Branta sandivensis - Hawaiian Geese or Ne-ne

Taken on our trip to Pensthorpe Nature Reserve in Norfolk.

This is a species of goose endemic to the Hawaiian Islands. The official bird of the state of Hawaiʻi, the nene is exclusively found in the wild on the islands of Oahu, Maui, Kauaʻi, Molokai, and Hawaiʻi.

The Hawaiian name nēnē comes from its soft call. The specific name sandvicensis refers to the Sandwich Islands, an old name for the Hawaiian Islands.

It is thought that the nene evolved from the Canada goose (Branta canadensis), which most likely arrived on the Hawaiian islands about 500,000 years ago, shortly after the island of Hawaiʻi was formed. This ancestor is the progenitor of the nene as well as the prehistoric Giant Hawaiʻi goose and nēnē-nui (Branta hylobadistes). The nēnē-nui was larger than the nene, varied from flightless to flighted depending on the individual, and inhabited the island of Maui. Similar fossil geese found on Oʻahu and Kauaʻi may be of the same species. The Giant Hawaiʻi goose was restricted to the island of Hawaiʻi and measured 1.2 m (3.9 ft) in length with a mass of 8.6 kg (19 lb), making it more than four times larger than the nene. It is believed that the herbivorous Giant Hawaiʻi goose occupied the same ecological niche as the goose-like ducks known as moa-nalo, which were not present on the Big Island. Based on mitochondrial DNA found in fossils, all Hawaiian geese, living and dead, are closely related to the giant Canada goose (B. c. maxima) and dusky Canada goose (B. c. occidentalis).

Did you know: Its strong toes have much reduced webbing, an adaptation to the lava flows on which it breeds.

English

Vatican City (i/ˈvætɨkən ˈsɪti/) or Vatican City State, in Italian officially Stato della Città del Vaticano (pronounced [ˈstaːto della t͡ʃitˈta del vatiˈkaːno]), which translates as State of the Vatican City, is a landlocked sovereign city-state whose territory consists of a walled enclave within the city of Rome, Italy. It has an area of approximately 44 hectares (110 acres), and a population of just over 800.

Vatican City was established in 1929 by the Lateran Treaty, signed by Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Gasparri, on behalf of the Holy See and by Prime Minister Benito Mussolini on behalf of the Kingdom of Italy. Vatican City State is distinct from the Holy See, which dates back to early Christianity and is the main episcopal see of 1.2 billion Latin and Eastern Catholic adherents around the globe. Ordinances of Vatican City are published in Italian; official documents of the Holy See are issued mainly in Latin. The two entities have distinct passports: the Holy See, not being a country, issues only diplomatic and service passports, whereas Vatican City State issues normal passports. In each case very few passports are issued.

The Lateran Treaty in 1929, which brought the city-state into existence, spoke of it as a new creation (Preamble and Article III), not as a vestige of the much larger Papal States (756–1870) that had previously encompassed much of central Italy. Most of this territory was absorbed into the Kingdom of Italy in 1860, and the final portion, namely the city of Rome with Lazio, ten years later, in 1870.

Vatican City is an ecclesiastical[4] or sacerdotal-monarchical[5] state, ruled by the Bishop of Rome—the Pope. The highest state functionaries are all Catholic clergymen of various national origins. It is the sovereign territory of the Holy See (Sancta Sedes) and the location of the Pope's residence, referred to as the Apostolic Palace.

The Popes have generally resided in the area that in 1929 became Vatican City since the return from Avignon in 1377, but have also at times resided in the Quirinal Palace in Rome and elsewhere. Previously, they resided in the Lateran Palace on the Caelian Hill on the far side of Rome from the Vatican. Emperor Constantine gave this site to Pope Miltiades in 313. The signing of the agreements that established the new state took place in the latter building, giving rise to the name of Lateran Pacts, by which they are known.

Our big dog Glory was extremely ill for the first time ever. Without going into the gory details, she became very weak at one point, not even able to keep water down and we didn't think she would make it. She's only 4 years old and very trim and active. It turned out to be a bad batch of dog food. I had purchased a different brand of dog food when my usual was out of stock. Only Glory ate it but picky Bean would not. The food is -- Purina ONE Beyond -- their premium and supposedly natural, health conscious recipe. It sounds good on paper and the ingredient list is very impressive but the reality is something different.

Checking online revealed some very disturbing things...recalls of dog and cat food, recalls of soy products used in pet foods due to contamination and hundreds of complaints for Purina dog and cat food in the past few months alone. And very sad and tragic stories...pets were dieing. They were getting sick, exactly like Glory, recovering and then going back on the food! These unfortunate people didn't suspect it could be the food. It was heartbreaking.

My daughter was distraught and when Glory was at the very worst she took it upon herself to send Purina a message via twitter "Purina you bastards, you're killing my dog, how do you put this crap in the stores!!!" I asked her not to send any more messages to large corporations like that without telling me first but what was done was done. She received a lot of replies from people who felt the same way - And minutes later a reply from good old Purina. "We care please call us at our toll free number..."

I put a call in to Purina that morning, I was told they have not had any complaints about the food. I said come on, there are hundreds if not thousands of complaints online in recent months, do you mean to tell me, mine is actually the first complaint to Purina, ever?!! He replied, it was the first complaint that HE personally had received THAT DAY! I didn't need that kind of doubletalk or free coupons. I just want you not to put garbage in a bag labeled dog food. Good luck Purina. I hope the information I gave you helps you solve your problem, but I doubt it.

Glory is now doing well and I'm just happy I realized it was the food and stopped giving it to her. My kids have a new appreciation for their dogs and how fragile life is, so that is one good thing to come from this ordeal. I'm sorry this is so long but maybe it will help save a few pets. If your pet suddenly becomes sick please consider the food.

Without a health and safety sign the veils between worlds seemed to have grown thin and even ragged around the demonic clawed gateways. I had no idea that this was in existence til I stumbled into the empty room. All of the apparitions were well behaved and posed nicely for these rushed mobile phone images.

I have been feeling out of this world ill and these bright painted darkly lit mobile phone images have been an unusual joy to edit.

The Boeing B-52 Stratofortress is a long-range, subsonic, jet-powered strategic bomber. It was designed and built by Boeing, which has continued to provide support and upgrades. It has been operated by the US Air Force (USAF) since the 1950s. The bomber is capable of carrying up to 32,000 kg of weapons, and has a typical combat range of more than 14,000 km without aerial refueling.

Beginning with the successful contract bid in June 1946, the B-52 design evolved from a straight-wing aircraft powered by six turboprop engines to the final prototype YB-52 with eight turbojet engines and swept wings. The B-52 took its maiden flight in April 1952. Built to carry nuclear weapons for Cold War-era deterrence missions, the B-52 Stratofortress is a veteran of several wars, but has only dropped conventional munitions in combat. The B-52's official name Stratofortress is rarely used; informally, the aircraft has become commonly referred to as the BUFF (Big Ugly Fat Fucker).

The B-52 has been in active service with the USAF since 1955. As of 2012, 85 were in active service with nine in reserve. The bombers flew under the Strategic Air Command (SAC) until it was disestablished in 1992 and its aircraft absorbed into the Air Combat Command (ACC); in 2010 all B-52 Stratofortresses were transferred from the ACC to the newly-created Air Force Global Strike Command (AFGSC).

Superior performance at high subsonic speeds and relatively low operating costs have kept the B-52 in service despite the advent of later, more advanced aircraft, including the variable-geometry B-1 Lancer, and the stealth B-2 Spirit. The B-52 completed 60 years of continuous service with its original operator in 2015. After being upgraded between 2013 and 2015, it is expected to serve into the 2040s.

The B-52G was proposed to extend the B-52's service life during delays in the B-58 Hustler programme. At first, a radical redesign was envisioned with a completely new wing and Pratt & Whitney J75 engines. This was rejected to avoid slowdowns in production, although a large number of changes were implemented. The most significant of these was the brand-new "wet" wing with integral fuel tanks which considerably increased the fuel capacity; gross aircraft weight went up by 17,235 kg compared with prior variants. In addition, a pair of 2,650 litre external fuel tanks were fitted under the wings. In this model, the traditional ailerons were eliminated. Instead, spoilers provided roll control. The tail fin was shortened by 2.4m, water injection system capacity was increased to 4,540 itres and the nose radome was enlarged. The tail gunner manning the four .50 calibre machine-guns (quad mounted in a remote-controlled tail turret) was relocated to the main cockpit and was provided with an ejection seat. Dubbed the "Battle Station" concept, the offensive crew (pilot and co-pilot on the upper deck and the two bombing navigation system operators on the lower deck) faced forward, while the defensive crew (tail gunner and ECM operator) on the upper deck faced aft.

The B-52G entered service on 13 February 1959 (a day earlier, the last B-36 was retired, making SAC an all-jet bomber force). 193 B-52Gs were produced, making this the most produced B-52 variant. Most B-52Gs were destroyed in compliance with the 1992 Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty; the last B-52G was dismantled under New START treaty requirements in December 2013. A few examples remain on display for museums.

This example, 59-2601, was seen at the what was then simply the International Air Tattoo (no Royal appellation in those days!) at RAF Greenham Common in 1983. It avoided dismantlement and is now part of the Tactical Air Command's Memorial Park at Langley AFB, Virginia.

Might have a triple crown winning horse for the first time in 30 years. Hope this will be a safe and history making race. He's not the jockey by the way!

Update on the race...

Big Brown didn't win and ended up finishing last. The jockey pulled him up when he felt that things weren't quite right with the colt. There are a number of things that could have affected his run but probably won't know anything right away because the owner or trainer never spoke to anyone after the race. Please pray, those that are horse and animals lovers that nothing serious is wrong with this gorgeous horse. No triple crown winner this year so maybe next year a horse will make history.

the show attracts more tourists to visit Singapore during this period increase the business in the travel industrial. Also, Singaporean get more chances to see the parade for the celebration of the country birthday compared to 10 years back.

One more rehearsal to the final day, be there early to get a good spot for the show....

Some information about singapore

Singapore, officially the Republic of Singapore, is a Southeast Asian city-state off the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula, 137 kilometres (85 mi) north of the equator. An island country made up of 63 islands, it is separated from Malaysia by the Straits of Johor to its north and from Indonesia's Riau Islands by the Singapore Strait to its south. Singapore is highly urbanised but almost half of the country is covered by greenery. More land is being created for development through land reclamation.

Singapore had been a part of various local empires since it was first inhabited in the second century AD.

Modern Singapore was founded as a trading post of the East India Company by Sir Stamford Raffles in 1819 with permission from the Sultanate of Johor. The British obtained full sovereignty over the island in 1824 and Singapore became one of the British Straits Settlements in 1826. Singapore was occupied by the Japanese in World War II and reverted to British rule after the war. It became internally self-governing in 1959. Singapore united with other former British territories to form Malaysia in 1963 and became a fully independent state two years later after separation from Malaysia. Since then it has had a massive increase in wealth, and is one of the Four Asian Tigers. The economy depends heavily on the industry and service sectors. Singapore is a world leader in several areas: It is the world's fourth-leading financial centre, the world's second-biggest casino gambling market, and the world's third-largest oil refining centre. The port of Singapore is one of the five busiest ports in the world, most notable for being the busiest transshipment port in the world. The country is home to more US dollar millionaire households per capita than any other country. The World Bank notes Singapore as the easiest place in the world to do business. The country has the world's third highest GDP PPP per capita of US$59,936, making Singapore one of the world's wealthiest countries.

------------------------📜LITTLE STORY📜

🎩A gentleman with a pipe🎩: - Have you heard what the papers are saying? The Titanic that everyone had such high hopes for has sunk. The whole thing went under when it collided with a block of ice. I was going to buy us tickets to the Titanic, it's like God took me away.

=

👥Lady in Black👥: - God had nothing to do with it. I told you from the beginning that a huge object like that was dangerous. Imagine how many noble families have been affected? I wonder what will happen in the world now that most of the corporations are without their owners?

=

🎩A gentleman with a pipe🎩: - I heard even before the Titanic was built and all the noble families headed for the voyage on it, a lot of the shares in their companies were bought up by the Rockefellers and the like.

=

👥Lady in Black👥: - I think it was a set-up too, but let's not talk about it in the train restaurant in front of everyone. Honey, what are you standing there for? There's a seat, sit down, have a nice cake and tea with us. We've got a long way to go.

=

🎩A gentleman with a pipe🎩: - One can only hope that the new train we're travelling on doesn't suddenly collide with some moose on the way too and we don't die, haha.

=

👥Lady in Black👥: - Oh my God, stop making jokes like that! Bone jokes don't make me happy.

=

😿Girl without a cat😿: - I don't want to sit with you all! I wanted to be with my cat... I have a grudge against you all!

=

🙋Snow Elf🙋: - So, what, a lot of the food and technology famous industries will now go to the Rockefellers?

=

🎩A gentleman with a pipe🎩: - It appears so. Now they will decide which nations will have the right to a cup of coffee and which ones will drink just dung. I feel we're not going to an industrialised world, but a world of slavery and Satanism.

=

👥Lady in Black👥: - I'm asking you all to stop this conversation! Let's talk about something light and positive.

=

😿Girl without a cat😿: - What's positive without that ginger lump?

=

*Everyone switched to everyday conversations occasionally drinking hot tea and eating a tasty cake, and only the red-haired girl looked out of the train window into the distance, remembering the warmth and softness of the sleepy cat.*

Some one commented on one of my other photo's that they wanted to know what I looked like without the photo-shop makeup, eyelashes, eyebrows and lipstick.

So here you see me and the mask without any photo-shoped enhancements.

I hope no one barfs

Hugs,

One pill makes you larger, and one pill makes you small

And the ones that mother gives you, don't do anything at all

Go ask Alice, when she's ten feet tall

And if you go chasing rabbits, and you know you're going to fall

Tell 'em a hookah-smoking caterpillar has given you the call

And call Alice, when she was just small

When the men on the chessboard get up and tell you where to go

And you've just had some kind of mushroom, and your mind is moving low

Go ask Alice, I think she'll know

When logic and proportion have fallen sloppy dead

And the white knight is talking backwards

And the red queen's off with her head

Remember what the dormouse said

Feed your head, feed your head

The Douglas C-47 Dakota is without doubt one of the most successful aircraft designs in history. It became one of the world's most famous military transport aircraft and saw widespread use by the Allies during World War Two and subsequently by Air Forces and civilian operators worldwide.

DAKOTA ZA947

The aircraft was adopted by Strike Command and issued to the BBMF in March 1993. In 2004, an original and authentic floor and interior was re-fitted to the Dakota, returning the cabin to the original, wartime specification. As there are now no other multi-engine tail wheel aircraft in RAF service outside the BBMF, the Dakota is an important training asset used for initial training of aircrew for the BBMF multi-engine aircraft and for renewing the currency of the Flight’s Lancaster pilots each year. In addition to this role though, the Dakota is a sought-after display aircraft in her own right and, as such, she appears regularly on the air show circuit either on her own or as part of a BBMF formation. She continues to be capable of para-dropping and is used in that role for special commemorative events.

ZA947 is now painted to represent Dakota FZ692 of No 233 Squadron, around the D-Day period in 1944. This aircraft, which was named ‘Kwicherbichen’ by her crews, was involved in Para-dropping operations on the eve of D-Day and subsequently in re-supply and casualty evacuation missions into and out of forward airfields in the combat areas.

Single-wheel rovers are awesome, but I think this is the first time I've pulled it off without the "cheat" of supporting the vehicle elsewhere as well.

Only my fifth rover this FebRovery. I need to step it up.
