Who Would’ve Expected That? - E chi se lo aspettava!
This photograph arrived without warning.
I was at the Witches’ Branch, a place wounded by a violent tornado years ago.
The forest still bears the marks of that event: fallen trees, sudden gaps, altered silences.
For months now, human hands have been at work — clearing, replanting, attempting repair.
I could hear the machines, distant,
but the forest kept them hidden.
Then, suddenly, from the opposite bank,
an agricultural tractor emerged from within the river.
A massive presence, carrying a huge load of wood reduced to small fragments,
crossing the Ticino with disarming ease.
No struggle, no hesitation.
Only movement.
Surrounded by water, trees, and mist,
the mechanical presence did not destroy the landscape:
it questioned it.
This image is not about invasion,
but about forced coexistence.
About a fragile balance between what wounds and what tries to heal.
Nature receives, humans cross.
And light, as always, does not judge: it waits.

Ero al Ramo delle Streghe, luogo ferito da una tromba d’aria che anni fa ne ha spezzato l’equilibrio.
Il bosco porta ancora i segni di quella violenza: alberi caduti, vuoti improvvisi, silenzi nuovi.
Da mesi la mano dell’uomo lavora per rimettere ordine, per sgomberare, ripiantare, ricucire.
Ne sentivo i rumori, lontani,
ma il bosco li teneva nascosti.
Poi, all’improvviso, dalla riva opposta,
un trattore agricolo è emerso dall’interno del fiume.
Un bestione, carico di legna ridotta in frammenti minuscoli,
ha guadato il Ticino con una naturalezza disarmante.
Nessuna fatica, nessuna esitazione.
Solo avanzare.
In mezzo all’acqua, agli alberi, alla nebbia,
la presenza meccanica non ha distrutto il paesaggio:
lo ha messo in discussione.
Questa immagine non parla di invasione,
ma di convivenza forzata.
Di un equilibrio fragile tra ciò che ferisce e ciò che tenta di riparare.
La natura accoglie, l’uomo attraversa.
E la luce, come sempre, non giudica: attende.
