Gastown is a creative mecca full of designers, artists, writers and students in the arts. Simon Fraser University also has its School of Contemporary Arts in the redeveloped Woodward's plaza.
A mural from the wall of the building opposite reflects perfectly in this window - right place, right time :-)

Holy Trinity Church, a Russian Orthodox church in Karakol.
The first church in Karakol, built when the city was founded, in 1869. Its purpose was to serve the troops stationed in Karakol, which it did until it was destroyed in an earthquake in 1889. A new wooden church was built on the same spot over the course of six years, and was consecrated in 1895.
Upon its completion, the spire of the new Holy Trinity Church was the tallest building in Karakol, at 26m tall. The church was active until 1917, when it became property of the state, and was used as everything from a theater to warehouse. In 1947, the church started holding services again, but in the 1960s was again used for other purposes.
After independence in 1991, the building was returned to church authorities, who started repairs and reconstructions for the damaged interior and exterior.

I'm Back! I must admit I have been a bit remiss in adding some new photos on here, I had intended to post some more from the Lyndhurst Meeting but I thought I would break it up by adding the ones from December's Totton Disco first, along with an assortment of other photos and another addition to the Historic Winchester series.
A big thank you to all the people that have commented on the previous pictures, your support is much appreciated! Thanks also To Grace King and Linda Long for taking the photos at Totton!

My neighbor's dog, Kayla, the white Chihuahua, and Ali, my neighbor's sister's older mixed Australian Cattle Dog, watch me pass by their window as I walk my dog. Ali has since crossed the rainbow bridge prior to me releasing this image. She's definitely watching over her pack here on earth.
so you're tryin' to do what they did
your friends that turned to liquid
and got lost in a sea
now you're drowning me
with your talk of 4-leaf clovers
you turn to rocks and omen
to beat the ambient harm
that is bruising your karma
oh I wish my arms were wider
I wish that I could hide you
so you could rest and repair
without the blanket of sorrow
the thick and the grey
your blanket of woe
is so heavy and stained
and it only weighs you down
so you thought that getting sober
would mean your life was over
I don't think it's that bad
I don't think it's that sad
just you sleep a little, baby
leave the world alone and later
if you wake up alive
that old blanket of sorrow
could be feathers and down
your blanket of woe
would leave you alone
and I could love you 'til you drown...
come to me, let's drown
come baby, let's drown
in feathers and down

I made my annual pilgrimage to the City of Liverpool over the last few days, while there I paid a visit to the Liverpool Maritime Museum and Slavery Museum. While I was there, I spotted this window frame and the stark nature of the black sillhouette and white light made an impact while reading the story of slavery and the affect that it had on so many millions of people who were forced from their homes, family and country. Sadly, slavery didn't end, it still goes on today. We all have a responsibility to eradicate it for the benefit of us all.
Another view of Frank's Shaft 50" Pumping Engine House.
The iron window frame on the top floor and filled-in window on the middle floor, mentioned in the previous photo, can be clearly seen.
I saw a great foto here on flickr.com - not so long ago.
One of these "I must paint this one" things, I find sometimes by just passing through the internet.
So I saved it and made a note "clefon" ... Well there is a member of this name, but there are no photos (anymore?)...
But whatever happens to the orginal - here is my Version of this sad looking girl. I added the windowframe and changed the jacket for my painting.
