It was gorgeous outside this past weekend...which meant ditching run club and taking advantage of the lack of cold and snow that we all know will be forth coming.
We headed out to McGillvary Falls and enjoyed every second of the challenging trail.

During a trip out to West Hawk Lake looking for Bald Eagles I came across a family of Beavers on a small pond...
I watched the beavers for a couple of hours taking lots of pictures as they swam around and foraged for some food that they were stockpiling for the winter...
In this shot, mom Beaver was pulling some branches down the bank to add to their stockpile for the winter... Beavers will collect branches that they store under the ice for feeding upon during the winter months...

One of the larger members of its family, the Pine Grosbeak is a bird of the boreal forests, found across northern Eurasia and North America, and south into the mountains of western Canada and the United States. A large, unwary finch, it makes periodic winter irruptions into southern Canada and northern United States. It is the largest and rarest of the "winter finches." While Stuart and I were on a treck thru the Whiteshell we spotted this Blue Heron along the shore line of the Rennie River...
August 2013
The sixth shot in a small series of shots of this Blue Heron that posed oh so nicely for me....
We had noticed him flying across a river in the Whiteshell and landing on this rock as we stopped the vehicle... I got out and was able to slowly work my way down to the shore line and sit on a rock in the water about 100' across part of the river from this guy.... he seemed content, as he stayed there for about 15 minutes during which he displayed some interesting behaviours...

This American White Pelican was coming in for a landing at the falls at Seven Sisters Falls...
Did you know... The White Pelican does not dive for fish as the Brown Pelican does. Instead, it dips its head underwater to scoop up fish. Several pelicans may fish cooperatively, moving into a circle to concentrate fish, and then dipping their heads under simultaneously to catch fish.

Another shot from a series that I took with this Red Tailed Hawk that was perched on a tree stump by McMunn Manitoba...
I really liked the background of leaves that provide stark contrast against the white of the hawk...
