This Bald Eagle was one of a few I saw this past weekend when on a drive out by the Whiteshell... in this picture he had just taken off from his perch on the tree...

First time down at the cottage with my Digital SLR. Decided it was a fine evening to go take some photos. So I went for a drive to capture a little piece of the beauty in the most beautiful part of our province, the Whiteshell Provincial Park.

This Turkey Vulture, along with a few others were circling overhead of a deer carcas that had been killed along the side of the highway...

While taking a few pictures of a group of Bohemian Waxwings in a tree.. a few of the birds would fly down to the ground to take up some snow for moisture (I gather).... here is one that has just taken a nice drink...

Well, not really a lone pine, however it was mostly alone. We were waiting for sunset and so I took advantage of a little nearly sunset orangish lighting.
Taken just below the trail bridge at the base of McGillivary Falls just before the snow started to fall. This is the creek flowing down into the clearing through the marsh.

This pelican was doing his best to walk on water... or so it would appear, save for the rocks that are just under the surface...

While driving thru Pinawa I came across this big buck that was on a rock pile on one side of the road... he was watching a small group of does on the other side... after I took a few snaps he decided i was not threat and started heading straight towards me and then on across the road to the does who then proceeded into the woods...

This Turkey Vulture was perched nicely along the end of a group of trees in the Whiteshell Provincial Park.
From the Cornell Lab of Ornithology... The Turkey Vulture uses its sense of smell to locate carrion. The part of its brain responsible for processing smells is particularly large, compared to other birds. Its heightened ability to detect odors—it can detect just a few parts per trillion—allows it to find dead animals below a forest canopy.

What better sport could you ask for? After hiking for hours through knee deep snow over shield rock I wanted to jump...and the husband joined in!

While on a drive out to West Hawk Lake, I spotted this mature Bald Eagle that was nice perched on a branch...
I was able to get this shot, and that was all before he took to the skies...

This place has great food. West Hawk Lake, MB, Canada, just off the Transcanada Highway, right before the Ontario border.
After driving through the night I was greated with a view I had to turn back for. This male White Pelican was one of many that could be found most afternoons swimming near the falls at Seven Sisters...
The pelicans tend to come in the late afternoon to feed for the night...
During breeding season, the males form a large hump on their upper beak as shown in this picture... usually by summer this hump has disappeared...
