When four star General Johnny 5 was tapped to lead the DSN expeditionary force for DA4 he was ecstatic. This was his moment to shine! All other generals can bite his shiny metal... ahem, where were we.
Just know one thing, Johnny isn't here to hold territory, he'll let the others do that. He's here to advance constantly! There shall be a peace: Pax Duggonia... but only when all resistance is crushed.
You can see him here with an annotated image of his heavily broadcast and disseminated speech to the DSN advanced infantry legion while occupying a stage in front of a massive DSN flag.
Now a little about the DSN and its flag:
Nation: Duggonian Space Navy (DSN)
Flag Name: Pride of the Launch
National Edict: To Infinity, and a little bit further! Wait hmm, that just kinda sucks. Fire Gill in marketing. Ugh, good help is so hard to find.
The DSN is your friendly neighborhood all-conquering space empire. It’s not your fault that your planet won’t know true happiness until you’re in the warm embrace of DSN occupying legions. You’ll see, no worries!
Our flag the “Pride of the Launch” is colored using the historical colors of the component founding nations of the home planet: Purple, Orange, and Lime Green. A spaceship launch is front and center to represent the historical moment the first DSN explorers made their way out into the stars. The DSN name is boldly stitched along one side and two patches are added to represent the two DA wars the empire has now taken upon itself. It’s quite the burden… but someone’s got to do it.

Johnny 5 info: this is (for me) a massive heavy motorized build that's a technic core with system decorative plating. He's got remote control power functions elements: tank drive and arms up and down, as well as programmed mindstorms elements including two sensors (color and IR), the laser which rises to the shoulder, the head which swivels and the eyebrows that waggle. It's about 2'4" tall. Judging by the mediocre drive performance and the sway of the upper half when moving, it might be worth revisiting a V2 sometime soon to update key elements for better function.
I'll be releasing some video when I get the programming sorted out further!

For some odd reason, relatives rarely came to visit our house. But when they did, I always made a point to go and see what kind of car they drove. Being of Italian heritage [ I know, I know, with a last name like Smith... it's a long story ] the automobiles that showed up were very impressive.
Here is a visual memory of those rare visits and the amazing vehicles that showed up.
On a different note:
It had been threatening rain the day I took this photo, but I was feeling the need to go out and be creative.
Not having a car, I dragged my gear about a half mile away and set up the shot.
You know where this story is going; so let me say I got the shot and made it home just as the deluge hit.
Personally, I've always liked the quality of light that happens before a storm and it shows up nicely in this image.
Both of the cars are by The Danbury Mint. The Buick is spectacular.
When your bird has a great shape (like most birds do) and you have a bright background, consider making a silhouette by exposing for the background and letting the bird go completely black. To do this, use spot metering and meter on the background.

Engine 513 was first on scene at the box alarm. E513 is a 2015 Seagrave Marauder equipped with 1500/750/40/40.

Week 8/52 — Outtake #1

As usual, the first outtake is the photo I actually wanted to post as main but didn't go with my motto. But I'm kind of in love with this shot (and the one in the comments) so bear with me.
It would have actually been appropriate to post the other one today, because of the new trailer that came out for 'For Lovers Only', which is just about the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. I'm getting scared of being too excited for that movie just to have it blow up in my face, but it just looks so damn gorgeous. The black and white, Miss Katic, the music, the style... oh, it's delightful! I can't wait!
Oh, and I'll need a week to recover from last week + weekend. I was so busy and hyper, and the classes on saturday were pretty damn amazing (MY DUALFLEX WORKS! — MEDIUM FORMAT HERE I COME!), I went out for sushi and a night out with friends, then a lovely sunday, then the Oscars (The Social Network was robbed, btw — but I STILL WORSHIP YOU, SORKIN), so now I'm a bit tired. But very, very happy. :)
When I last went for a walk around Mill Lake a couple days ago the lake was without any Canada Geese or Cacklers. Just this lone Cackler Minima. I have seen it there for a couple weeks perhaps it is injured, although it walks and swims in the lake fine. When I was at Kilby on the Harrison River yesterday, in a farmers field I saw a number of Cackler Minima mixed in with the other Cacklers and Canada Geese.

Had some pretty smoky conditions this year from the Canada fires. Good to hear they have been getting some much needed rain. And for us a wonderful show before bedtime.

Received an interesting piece of Fan Mail a few weeks ago. With questions about what do I do when I'm not storm chasing. The author wrote, "Since you live in Nebraska & you only focus on severe weather. Do you ever do any other type of photography & videography?"
As a matter of fact I do. (This is the first time I'm ever posting this type of photography content to Flickr). I'm really in all aspects of nature. But the scenic views is what I come for. Took a few weeks off at the end of September to do a bucket list item (get to the top of Pikes Peak). Also to visit my sister & brother that live here & enjoy some quality family time with them.
Colorado Springs has some epic views. It was also one of the reasons I took our family's early fall vacation to this area of the US. The seasonal foliage was just starting & the aspens were already turning their fall colors. Those Epic Views is what I was after!
Booked our family tickets to the Broadmoor Manitou & Pikes Peak Cog Railway. The Cog has been climbing Pikes Peak since 1891. It was one of the most unique experiences that I've have ever done. This place is recognized as the world's highest cog railroad, The railway is an important part of the heritage of the Western United States.
So to the Individual that had wrote me that Fan Mail. Here is your answer. I know I don't post anything but severe weather, however I wanted to give a small sample what other photography interests that I have & do.
BTW, I & my wife got Altitude Sickness something gnarly. Took a bit to get over after the event but it was worth every second! Plus it snowed the next weekend on top of Pikes Peak.

Enjoying a Thai Singha beer from the Baiyoke Sky Hotel Bar, just one floor below the rotating observation deck. Arrive early, beat the crowds, relax with the views.
This has been a bit of a beast to get to the state that I have it here on flickr. Started out as 16 full frame files taken from on top of the Arc de Triomph looking towards La Défense in the lower section and towards the Louvre in the top section. The final image was 1.5 GB so I had to crush down to upload. I have left as a big file so as you can see the detail, so do look at the largest file size.
When I first saw this guy I thought he was carrying a doll, then I realized after editing the picture that it was a real baby.
.. I post sunflowers to cheer me up !!!
Today the weather is really really bad in Paris. The good new is that I may have enough time to visit your stream!

When I posted the first picture, Christmas Star, I felt that I wanted to tell you something more about it. However, it was just before New Year, and time was not on my side.
This picture was taken inside a light and mirror installation of a well-known glass manufacturer. The walls in the room were covered all over with those mirror triangles, with LED lights in between which were constantly cycling between white and different colours, creating a mesmerizing pattern and giving you a feeling that you are in the middle of a kaleidoscope.
Taking photos in this environment challenged me, but I was not well prepared - no tripod, just the plain kit lens of the K-5. I had to decide take the chance or miss it, without knowing when or if I will ever return, and if everything will still be there.
I decided to do a series of EV brackets and combine them to an HDR image, and this was the best one I pulled out of the series, however I was still not quite happy with the result, so I left it in the drawer.
This year I decided to try some new denoising and sharpening techniques.
I also had the feeling, that I wanted to give you the opportunity to zoom in a bit more. I might add a more detailed crop later on.
I hope you can enjoy it just like I do.
