I like the vintage red phone best, but it would've been better if it also had the old-technology coil/wire.

When I went to Pecos, I went down into one of the dugouts where people used to live.
I sure hope that when the sun went down, they had some candles, or some buffalo grease, or some cheap whiskey, or whatever they used to use to get some light....because it was very dark and scary!!! And I have the feeling, that ever ready batteries were in short supply :)
The wood tones in the original shot were quite warm, and very intense. I desaturated by almost 50%. Please let me know what you think.

When Japan was still virtually inaccessible to foreign travellers - American admiral Perry only adventured here in 1852 - Carl Johann Maximowicz, director of the Botanical Garden of St Petersburg, Russia, ventured there on his round-the-world journey 1853-1857. As a botanist he trod the footsteps of those intrepid naturalist forebears Carl Peter Thunberg (1743-1828), the 'Japanese Linnaeus', and Philip Franz von Siebold (1796-1866), whom I've often mentioned in these pages.
Maximowicz traveled widely in Japan under often extremely trying circumstances, and he made a huge collection of Japanese plants. Among these he collected - and later described scientifically - this magnificent Daisy in what was then called Jedo or Edo and which we know today as Tokyo. Nippon Daisy was soon afterwards imported into Europe and made its way across the Atlantic to become widely disseminated on the northeastern seaboard of the USA, especially on Long Island; hence its local name: Montauk Daisy.
This photo was taken in the tiny secluded plot in the Hortus devoted to Japanese plants in honor of Thunberg.

I found a very old camera, and when the pictures were developed this was one of them. Probably taken by a T-Rex.
At the end of some rolling low foothills of the Black Mountains in the southern end of Death Valley you can find some rather striking black hills. They contrast with the surrounding more muted landscape, as if all the black boulders had been swept down into a couple of neat piles. Little did I know that in my previous 8 years of visits that these black hills harbored a secret. And that secret was revealed in 2016 when superbloom conditions swept through the park. Apparently, Desert Gold wildflowers love these black hills, and the dark color of the hills really made the flowers pop. Note how many fewer flowers seem to cover the lighter hills just beyond. At this point late in the day, the Sun’s last rays are climbing up the formidable Black Mountains. After a few short weeks, this spectacular show went quiet, going dormant until the next superbloom can awaken under the right conditions.
Although the sun was hazy, it was still warm enough to sit outside and Harbie was happy to enjoy some garden time with Sarah and Emily.

When religious warmongers with criminal minds assassinate artists for their expression and ideas using a pen, many markers come forward to make a point with ballpoint all over the world, all over again!
And with this thought that some journalists are saying "it's just an isolated incident" and not a terrorists action is beyond conception. .. Apparently we should not be so “racists” talking about it, my steady question arises again; since when religion became a race? Among many issues, there's one thing I don't understand within the Liberal Democrats - which is; why do they take away liberty from the tolerant citizens to give it away to those that do not have emancipation in their roots for their own?
When I first went up to the park this morning I couldn't even see the mountain. In some places it was all you could do to see the road!
After 6 months , i'm resuming the "when it rains" series , The heavy rain season started a couple on Wednesday . I know I haven't been around much lately , it's been very hectic but fortunately i'll have more time in a couple of days .
there is no slow lingering death but rather a collapse and swift demise to oblivion.

When scouting for the Lunar eclipse a few months ago took some scout shots of the rising moon. I like the way this turned out.
When a white painted bike appears somewhere, it was put there as a memento to an accident in which a cyclist was killed. It makes me very sad every time I pass by such a place.
I must say however that if we really want to reduce the number of deadly accidents with cyclists, then it is not helpful to point fingers only at car and lorry drivers while ignoring the cavalier attitude many cyclists display concerning safety. Bike lanes should be used, helmets should be worn, lights should be used at the front and the rear, bicycles should be maintained, easily visible clothing should be worn rather than black spandex, and there should be general understanding that traffic rules are there for a reason.
Every victim of a traffic accident is one too many, and things must change. We can't just go on with the old mindset and hope that somehow things will get better even if we don't, because that is not going to happen.
