HMM!
When I first started capturing images with my macro lens, I was smitten with flowers. Then leaves came into my life! What a difference a season makes. Every walk outside becomes a treasure hunt.
When a Black Bear (Ursus americanus) spots and/or smells potential food, it can become obsessed with getting it. Here a tiny cub, high up in the trees on a rainy morning, detects something in the crown of the dead tree. He just can't resist literally sticking his nose in it. In his quest for food, he seems to be stepping into oblivion, with no where to go and nothing to grip. However, his little claws actually found a hold on the branch. From the scratch marks on that branch, looks like he wasn't the first bear to venture forth up there.
Back when the Bessemer was still worthwhile. The southbound ore for North Bessemer passes by the searchlights at MD south, led by a triplet of IC SD70's.
Was I disappointed these were not the oranges? Yes.
Was I glad I shot them? Also, yes.
It seems the Rihanna Tree isn't photographed as much lately. Back in 2013 popstar Rihanna was forced to disrupt the video shoot for her hit single "We Found Love" in this field when she was told to put on more clothes by the land owner. So from then this tree has been known as "The Rihanna Tree"

When its 100 degrees in Sacramento is the perfect time to head to Donner Lake for the evening. The temperature is perfect, no wind, and the stars are rather bright. Some of them reflect in the lake. The darkness along with the quiet, still air makes for a special time.
When I first saw this Red-tailed Hawk fanning out its feathers, I was so entranced by the light coming through the feathers that I almost forgot to take pictures. And no, cameras don't adequately depict exactly what I saw. I wish my eyes could convert the images I see into photos, or convey my feelings of delight and awe.

When we sailed Georgian Bay there were moments like this where you could not see a horizon line while you were on the water. These beacons of light were welcome signs of land again.

Located in Manistee county, on the west end of the north pier. The light was replaced in 1873, when the new structure was augmented with a combination fog signal and light tower at the end of the wooden north pier. To make access to the light safer during stormy weather, this new light was outfitted with an elevated wooden catwalk running from the shore to the light.

When we arrived the water was the stillest I had seen in my trips to Mono Lake. The reflections were mesmerizing, and the light was perfect. It was an ideal combination of stunning and still.
