The grandeur of this waterfall is hard to capture, due to the width, number of tiers and proximity of trees to the base...sometimes going in for a more intimate scene is a better option.
When we returned home after two weeks in Alaska we discovered that the local Phainopeplas had become very accustomed to the bird baths while we were gone (I have a neighbor keep them full). They almost certainly liked the almost human-free conditions over those two weeks, and I set up a little perch right after returning home to try to capture one coming to the water. This male obliged.

When the winter birding gets slow here, we can often find these permanent residents in our own back yards or in almost any park that has feeders. I found these in Hermitage Park today.
Top L - Downy Woodpecker / Top R - Black-capped Chickadee
Bottom L - Red-breasted Nuthach / Bottom R - White-breasted Nuthach.

When I was shooting the Nottingham skyline at sunrise less than a fortnight ago on a cold and frosty morn ....this was happening behind me.. so I grabbed a couple handheld down on one knee.which got frozen and wet...Not the best - but the best that I could manage. You couldn't just walk away from these sparkly grasses though, could you ?

When I saw the direction the Greater Roadrunner was heading near the Chisos Basin Visitors Center, I attempted to flank it by going down some steps along a retaining wall and actually found myself looking up at it as it came directly toward me. Somehow, it's feet got lost in the process. Big Bend National Park, Brewster County, Texas.

When Guru went into the cat enclosure, Muse still couldn't bring himself to use the cat flap. So I opened the bedroom window to see if he would use that avenue. He watched for a long time before finally venturing out.
When it was springtime, I made some photos of the unfolding fern leaves. Now it's autumn, and again the fern leaf is one of my favourite motifs. Always beautiful ...
After watching the BC Rail heritage unit drag through Wisconsin and then flying into Michigan and coming through at the worst possible time, I was less than thrilled. Not long after I basically wrote it off, I got word of a prime light CSX D705 going west across the Plymouth Sub. After making a substantial pick up in Lansing, the train gets rolling again west through Grand Ledge and across the Grand River. While I had been disappointed that one door closed, another door opened right up and made for a great chase.
Taken when we went on our bikes at the start of last month. This is partway up the north side of the Bwlch (the gap). The road goes up out stage left of the photo , but one can then see it carving its way across before doubling back up to again exit stage left .
We had such a wonderful time this day, as you can see the weather was good and the scenery up the top of the valleys is stunning in my opinion.
It’s meant to be dry today, but with the temperatures not getting above 5 degrees and the wind coming straight from the North Pole I don’t think that I’ll be outside on my bike at least!

When kayaking on Lake Moraine you need to be careful because tipping over in this water can be deadly. With the water at approximately 40 degree hypothermia can set in fast. They suggest kayaking close to the shore.
