Area high school students competed in the inaugural Carl Sandburg College Welding Competition held May 18 in Building G at the Main Campus in Galesburg. Teams from Galesburg, ROWVA, United, Monmouth-Roseville and Galva competed in the event.

Solaris Farms: Welding the Titanic. Bremer. 2011. Dormant. Tetraploid. 55"-7". 3-4 long branches. 25 buds. Large red-orange unusual form crispate. Overall shape is a star. Scapes are tremendous and tall. Many flowers and nicely branched. Full sib to Fire Fountain. (Ravenous x Springfield Clan) x B.J. McMillen. Extremely floriferous and a showoff in the garden that draws people to it like a magnet. Fans are massive and scapes are strong-no leaning here!

made this mini bed in welding class tonight

I love how the cars were jointed, so that the very long stretches of rail could ride across them, and the way the racks were designed so that the rail could move and flex as the train entered turns.

Something I've wanted to shoot for a long time, I finally got the chance last weekend. I was roaming around the Niles Canyon Railway maintenance yard when I saw a couple of guys welding on this car, one of the many pieces of railroad equipment being restored by an all volunteer crew.
