As I was welding a rounded awning onto our dome a incident occurred.
My foot was below the weld area and a piece of molten metal fell on my
shoe, then my sock, then me! It was a rather painful experience to
deal with while being strapped onto the dome 10' in the air.
Eventually I pulled it together and finished welding. Let that be a
lesson to me to never weld in shorts and sneakers again.

Found in a vacant trade school: A 1942 Jam Handy instructional filmstrip on the delicate art of welding aluminum tubes.
I welded a thin 4" piece of steel to an L shaped piece. I'll use the grinder to make that side flush and use the drill press to make holes for the screws.

The seat tube is fully welded to the bottom bracket before anything else. 953 is really touchy when it comes to weld contamination, and I've taken great pains to keep these parts clean during the process. Finishing the seat tube weld before attaching the downtube makes this more difficult, but I feel it's a step that shouldn't be skipped.

Area high school students competed in the inaugural Carl Sandburg College Welding Competition held May 18 in Building G at the Main Campus in Galesburg. Teams from Galesburg, ROWVA, United, Monmouth-Roseville and Galva competed in the event.
