Moving from flat plate to the curves of mitered tubes is a big step in difficulty (for me). Everything changes directionally as you move along the joint. I'm not posting these because I think they show good welds. Just an example of where I am in the learning process.
Tubing here is 0.035" wall.
My welding hood has little pockets for headphones inside.
Of course you can't hear the music over the noise of the welder.
Today I got my welding glasses (shade 10 and 12) to try as a cheap ND filter. This one is done with shade 10 and took 8 minutes so there was some artifacts due to sensor heating. Also due to the wideness at 8mm some of the frame had to be cropped out because of the tape that was holding the glass up.

Hull Technician 3rd Class William Sittig welds a stuffing tube cover in the machine shop aboard the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68). Nimitz is operating as part of the U.S. 7th Fleet, in the Western Pacific and Indian Oceans.
What can be done at work with a beat-up welding helmet, masking tape, cans of spray paint and too much time on my hands.
The former British Railways LMR welding school in Northampton. This is a grade 2 listed Midland Railway engine shed, dating back to 1873. This has been disused for many years now and is sadly being left to decay.

I've been commissioned to build replacement, cat-less mid pipes for a Porsche 986. This is a shot shows the beginning of the final welding process after the part has been assembled, tacked, and test fitted on the vehicle. The part is in a jig I built to aid in fit-up and secure the part from drawing out of alignment during welding.
