One of the most amazing beaches in the world, just round the corner from two other of the most amazing beaches in the world! Harris is an incredible island - this is from my second trip there, albeit a one day whirlwind extravaganza! This was one of my favourites from Horgabost. Used a Haida little stopper and Lee 0.6 ND hard grad.

Not a spectacular shot by any means but I rather liked the pattern of the waves in the bay.

This was on a very windy day at Ecola State Park in Oregon. The waves were coming in and the wind was blowing the waves back behind. I thought this capture looked a little bit like a yin-yang symbol with the fog representing the light color of the symbol and the water representing the darker color of the symbol.
A couple of other shots from my time ay the shore this week end. I was trying to catch the dawn light through the breaking waste, this is as close as I came.

About Criccieth Traeth y Promenade
Criccieth's two beautiful beaches are separated by its prominent medieval castle, perched on a small headland. The eastern beach is sheltered from the prevailing westerly weather and its shallow water makes it a safer place for paddling and swimming. It is also popular for boating and you will find the Lifeboat Station and a convenient car park.At low tide both beaches are popular with walkers who come to take in the magnificent views of Cardigan Bay, the mountains of Snowdonia and Mid Wales.
The Lleyn Coastal Footpath, which runs through Criccieth, follows the coastline of the peninsular for over 90 miles. The beach is backed by a promenade which has good access for disabled people. There is excellent access to the beach by bike, using the National Cycle Route 8 which passes through Criccieth.
Blue Flag beach. Cafe and shop next to the beach and there is a good range of shops, cafes and pubs in the town set back from the the beach. Pay parking, toilets. Dog restrictions apply April to end September.
My first year teaching, I was standing outside at recess when an eagle flew over, quite low. A young boy that I taught said, "You have to wave to the eagle for good luck. My Dad told me. Wave!" This boy's Dad was in jail and he himself had not had a lucky time of things. I think about him often and I always wave to eagles when I see them. I hope he has had lots of eagles in his life since.

Another shot which I took at Newhaven during the peak of Storm Brian on Saturday 21 October. At this point the sky out to sea was really dark with an approaching shower while the sun was still shining near the shore making for perfect lighting which didn't last too long. Taken from a safe position on shore with a lens at 210mm. Although it looks to be taken out at sea in the original image before cropping there was a bit of the beach in the image. The location is just west of the Newhaven Harbour wall breakwater and with a serious storm massive waves come in from the SW and hit the breakwater also creating a lot of backwash and turbulence with the waves coming in hitting the waves thrown back from the breakwater creating a mountainous sea.. I would assume it is quite deep water there for the waves to be so large.
Storm Brian was strong enough with gusts of 60-70mph to bring down trees. Conditions for Photography were ideal. The peak of the storm came in the middle of the day combining at the same time with an exceptionally high Spring Tide. The weather was sun and showers with the main rain having gone through overnight so the light was good. The location I wanted at Newhaven on the South Coast also had the advantage of a wide and high shingle beach providing a safe location to take pictures even in a fierce storm. I had wanted to take pictures from this location since being inspired by a talk given at the Bognor Camera Club early this year by well known seascape Photographer Rachael Talibart who had taken shots from the same location. This is one of about 1000 pictures I took over about 2.5 hours. With spray going well inland and showers I used a waterproof cover for the camera though the lens needed frequent cleaning. I would estimate that there were a good 30 other photographers there
The picture was taken with a Sony A700 with a Minolta 75-300mm zoom at 210mm. Taken handheld (No chance of a steady tripod in those conditions). It was bright enough though to easily get 1/2000 second. Processed first in Camera Raw and then in Topaz Denoise and Topaz Clarity and Adjust for more detail. The image may look mono but it is technically a colour image, the conditions created a mono appearance.
