20+ knot winds made KAP difficult at best, but the wind across Kua Bay was steady enough to fly a Flowform 8 and lift my BBKK rig. At times, though, the rig was at risk of catching surf spray.
Number one in a series of wave abstracts.
I couldn't get a lot of height because of the high wind speed and the low line angle on my only high wind kite, my Flowform 8. So I spent time playing with the waves.
Equipment Used:
Kite - Flowform 8 + 15' Fuzzy Tail
Line - #200 Dacron
Rig - R/C BBKK
Camera - Canon A650IS

this one is inspired by my dear friend olja. she posted a wonderful wave shot from sri lanka www.flickr.com/photos/olika/15459298404/in/contacts/. and she has matched it with beautiful music that moves me so. so much that i decided to post one myself, although not as pretty. this one is from miramar beach california. and i think lindsey stirling's master of the tides www.flickr.com/photos/olika/15459298404/in/contacts/ may work here. anyways if you have a wave shot, please post one too. let's see if we can get all the continents. if nothing else, just to show even though we may be from different lands and cultures, we can still be one with each other, just like the oceans. so wave back :)
When a snow crystal grows slowly, faceting puts three corners on the end of each branch (for example, see the very end of the top branch). With faster growth, branches sprout from each corner. The recipe for this snow crystal is:
facet, branch, repeat!
Five cycles of this gave the five sets of side-branches you see in the photo.
Another shot of my son on Portreath beach in Cornwall, breaking the waves with his wellington boots in the late evening sunlight. I really like the rim lighting around his body.
Off to help out at the BoA photo group exhibition this morning, so will hopefully catch up with everyone later. I've sold one print so far!!
Shot from within The Wave looking out into the Paria Wilderness. The Wave is a wonderful place within the Paria Wilderness. It is managed by the BLM (Bureau of Land Management) and is accessible by permit only. Unfortunately, getting that permit is not the easiest thing to do, but luckily we did. The Wave is a pretty recognizable feature--it has even been a desktop background for Apple Macintoshes before.
But this shot, I like, simply because it encapsulates The Wave, yet is a different point of view. It is looking out from The Wave over the Paria Wilderness. The colors and patterns in the rock were deeply attractive to me, and this, then, is the result.
You probably think that this wave is coming from the left, but actually it's moving from right to left, and that's the tail end of it. Although almost vertical, the wind has carried it over the breakwater.
The light was so diffuse that there was very little contrast, but single-raw HDR has brought the detail out a little.

Off the Oregon coast, near Lincoln City. I just thought this one was neat for getting four waves in the same frame. 14FEB09
The waves crash dramatically off the sharp, volcanic rock on the North Shore of Oahu.
