Symonds Yat
A short walk from the main viewing area at Symonds Yat Rock is the alternative view point, much quieter, in fact we were the only ones there. The views of the river Wye I thought were actually better from here. In the distance you should be just able to make out the spire of the church in the village of Goodrich, and below in the valley by the side of the river some cows looking very small.

I hope that the Mt. Whitney Viewpoint, with its rustic wooden sign, will look much the same 50 years from now as it has for the past half-century I’ve been visiting.
Some places, especially those as remote and protected as the lands around Mount Whitney, have a timeless quality to them, resisting significant change.
It's a special experience to witness a place that seems to defy the rapid changes of the modern world, offering a consistent connection to nature over generations

Mount Whitney is a prominent peak in the Sierra Nevada mountain range, located in east-central California. It holds the distinction of being the highest point in the contiguous United States, with an elevation generally cited as 14,505 feet (4,421 meters) above sea level.
Mount Whitney straddles the border of Inyo and Tulare counties, and its western slope lies within Sequoia National Park, while its eastern slopes are in Inyo National Forest. It rises dramatically over 10,000 feet above the Owens Valley floor to its east.
Mount Whitney is primarily composed of granite, formed during the Cretaceous period. Its distinctive shape has been sculpted by ancient glaciers, leaving behind cirques, moraines, and thousands of glacial lakes in the surrounding landscape.
Mount Whitney was named in 1864 in honor of Josiah Whitney, who was the state geologist of California and sponsored the geological survey that discovered it. The first recorded ascent was on August 18, 1873, by Charles Begole, Albert Johnson, and John Lucas.
Mount Whitney is remarkably close to Badwater Basin in Death Valley National Park, which is the lowest point in North America at 282 feet below sea level. This proximity creates a dramatic contrast in elevation within a relatively small geographic area.

Sunset Viewpoint on Phi Phi Island!
We hiked up the steep old trail to Mason Lake and went back down the longer, less steep but rockier Ira Spring trail. The new trail has great views of the surrounding mountains like Mt Defiance and Putrid Pete's Peak but the old trail has the creek. Next time we'll do the loop in reverse.

A pano taken from the viewpoint at Dinorwic. Stuck to the footpath and didn't wander off anywhere 'dangerous' :)
On our rod trip through the impressing northern Norwegian landscape we took a short break in Narvik, where we went up the mountain by the cable car, the Narvikfjellet to the view point and restaurant for the breathtaking panorama view and to the famous Ofotfjord and surrounding Arctic landscapes.
The new cable car gondola lift in Narvikfjellet opened in 2019
We were four friends travelling in two vans, one VW bus, and one Mercedes bus from Berlin, Germany all the way up to the North Cape in Norway in 1977.
I took the photo in 1977 with an analogue Asahi Pentax SP II (M42) camera and Kodachrome ISO 64 slide film, then digitalised by using a a Nikon Coolscan film scanner and further edited in Photoshop Lightroom.

Olden is a village in the municipality of Stryn in Vestland county, Norway. I captured this image from the top of Mount Hoven, an amazing viewpoint at the terminus of the Loen Aerial Tramway.

Looking north at Whalehead Island and Beach from the House Rock Viewpoint.
The Samuel H. Boardman State Scenic Corridor stretches along Oregon’s south coast for 12 miles north of Brookings. It is a visual feast of sea stacks, cliffs, and secret beaches. Experiencing this was my primary reason for heading this far south. Was amazing.
Samuel H. Boardman was the first superintendent of Oregon State Parks, and a major advocate for preserving coastal beauty for the public. He was also the founder of the town of Boardman in Morrow County, Oregon.
Have a great week!
