This scene has changed considerably since 1980 all of the infrastructure has gone with the exception of the station buildings and there are overhead wires too. The Duchess of course is in York Museum cosmetically restored in it's streamline form. I wonder what else has changed in this scene? and then of course the 'fashions' visible. I had of course hoped to find that the one survivor from the scene would be the Morris Minor KNU860J but it doesn't appear so!
LMS 4-6-2 8P 46229 Duchess of Hamilton sits awaiting a railtour on 1-11-80. The Duchess was to take the Cumbrian Mountain Express to Carlisle but had problems at Stainforth with non-functioning sanders and required assistance at the rear from a class40 [40134 I think].
I was not in a position to chase the train that day as we were visiting none enthusiast friends.
Getting ready for some more "ski time" in the weekend...

This shot was taken at sunset from a viewpoint along the Jacksonville Woodland Trails last January. Looking East over the Rogue Valley towards Mt McLoughlin and the Cascade Range. The city of Medford is down below with Roxy Ann Butte just on the other side.
Brooklyn Wildlife Segment, Ice Age Trail, Dane County, Wisconsin. The lighter-colored area across the middle of this panorama is the wetlands of Story Creek, which at the time of this photo, were quite dry due to the lack of rain. The presence of the wetlands attracts cranes to the area. The mix of farms and woodlands is very typical of this part of Wisconsin. Tall prairie grasses, blowing in the wind, appear on the left and right.
My personal viewpoint is that peace should reign over land and sea.
This photo was taken by a KИEB 88C medium format film camera with a MИP-26B 3.5/45mm lens and Ж3-1.4x 82x0.75 filter using Kodak Ektar 100 film, the negative scanned by an Epson Perfection V600 and digitalized with Photoshop.
Glenfinnan Monument with statue of Bonnie Prince Charlie perched on the top. Sgùrr Ghiubhsachain is the peak in the background.
This is a famous place in the park where tourists gather to see giant splashes and hear the waves smash into the cliffs with a sound like roaring thunder. However it was so calm this day that there were no splashes, few people, and only the sound of a gentle "bloop" as the waves tapped the stones. As I was looking at it, one family actually came up and asked me if I knew where to find the place. Yeah, it's right here. :)

Xing Ping is a pretty Chinese village located on both shores of the Lijiang River. Not too long ago, fishermen in the village would catch fish using cormorants with necklaces that limited their ability to swallow fish above a certain size. The fishermen would then save the fish that were too large for the cormorants to swallow. Although this tradition is no longer in active use, the village celebrates its fishing heritage with performances showing how things used to be done.
