A colourfully representation from Mother Earth - tender-cooked root vegetables like carrot, radish, sweet potato etc mingled with asparagus, pine nuts, tomatoes, zucchini etc for a I-must-confess tasty vegetarian-friendly dish.

Part of our vegetable garden in late afternoon in Winter. It hasn't had much attention this year. In the picture are silverbeet, garlic and Romanesco Broccoli.
I arrived at my garden plot today and saw this. Dead potato plants - stalks but no leaves. The beetles had attacked them, they'd suffered high heat with little water, then a heavy storm, so I guess the combination did them in. (I have no idea what the healthy green leafy bean-ish plants around them are - something from the pile of dirt I used to create the "trough".)
I only ever saw one plant flower, so I wasn't sure if there would be anything to harvest since they didn't seem to make it through the whole cycle. I had pulled out a few potatoes before, so I thought I'd dig in and salvage what I could. Boy was I pleasantly surprised!

This house is my first modular building, its a vegetable store build on a 16x32 and a 8x32 baseplate.
斋菜 (vegetables) offering to God is common in Buddism and Taosm. In my family, the six items comprise of 黑木耳(black fungi), 腐竹(fuzhu - bean curd skin),发菜(fa cai - black moss),香菇(shiitake mushroom),金针(enoki mushroom),冬粉(glass noodle).
Each of them carries auspicious meaning, for example fa cai = 发财= prosperity, fuzhu = 富足=wealth full. All these will be cooked the day after, a favourite dish of everyone in the family.
We joined our local CSA, and yesterday was the first pick-up! I am so freaking excited about this program. Included in our first box: strawberries, mint, baby greens, asparagus, and turnips. Okay,the rhubarb was not included, but was purchased at a local farm. Also included in the CSA box but not pictured: Amish butter, fresh goat cheese, and eggs.
