Le "hajj", ou pèlerinage à la Mecque, est l’un des cinq piliers de l’islam. Il ne constitue une obligation pour le croyant que dans la mesure où celui-ci a les moyens physiques et matériels de l’accomplir une fois dans son existence. Le hajj doit être entrepris à une date précise du mois de "dhu al-hijja" du calendrier islamique. C'est l’occasion d’une rencontre religieuse, mais aussi sociale et culturelle, de millions de musulmans de toutes origines ethniques et géographiques.
L’exposition Hajj, le pèlerinage à la Mecque, présentée à l'Institut du Monde Arabe, vise à mettre en avant ce pèlerinage dans ses diverses dimensions. Ces multiples facettes sont présentées à travers des objets d’art médiéval, manuscrits et enluminures, tissus d’apparats et offrandes.

After it closed - I don't know when that was - it became John's Automotive, a used car dealer.

I used this vehicle while doing a rescue in the Peak District.This is Bakewells 4x4 belonging to East Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust. The Nissan Pathfinder is a SUV manufactured by Nissan Motors since 1986, derived from Nissan's compact pickup truck platform. The Pathfinder is slotted in size between the Murano and Armada or Patrol. The Pathfinder's traditional Japanese competitor is the Toyota 4Runner.
This CSX rolled off the Scottslawn Sub and is heading south towards Parsons Yard. My wife thought a wide crop was better than the shallow depth of field, or tight in shot that I am used to doing. I don't know...I'll do it this time.
I used the chance at freedom yesterday after work to run up through the mountains on the state roads with the intention of making my way here. The trees are past peak and because I was there late the sun wasn't where I had hoped. Still, it was nice being out in the mountains again.
Here is the technique I use to adjust my pano head to the no-parallax point. I first adjust my tripod head to a level comfortable for standing. Then find a marker to place on the ground below the tripod. In this case I used an orange wire nut. Then adjust as in the center image, so that the edge of base of the pano head aligns with the marker. Then pan up and down to the extremes of the field of view, making adjustments so that the marker will be at the edge of the base for all 3 locations.

Using an old brass shutterless Taylor, Taylor Hobson Cooke lens on the Speed Graphic - just my kind of thing :-)
A pretty radical blur but this is why I bought a Speedy G - for its focal plane shutter which enables me to use those lovely old soft lenses.

Angus McLeod, has been on an epic journey – from the heart of the UK in Morecambe, to the heart of his own community in Dundee. The Big Walk, an idea from the Eden Project made possible by the National Lottery, aims to shine a light on people at the heart of our communities. The Big Walk kicked off on Wednesday 16 May (National Walking Month), where four teams set off across the UK, each walking home over the course of 18 days. Visiting groups along the way, Angus and the Scotland Team have been helping celebrate and connect community projects as they built up an appetite and invited the nation to join the country’s biggest community-led celebration - The Big Lunch on 3 June - the UK’s annual get-together for neighbours. Having set off from Morecambe, the walkers will arrive into Dundee, having visiting community projects in Morecambe, Penrith, Larkhall, Easterhouse, Glasgow, Larkhall, Stirling, Craigshill, Portobello, Kirkcaldy, Perth, Coupar Angus, Forfar and Monfieth to name but a few, and visited groups including food banks, community gardens, Men’s Sheds, befriending groups, sensory Gardens, Schools and many more. Angus celebrated his return by hosting his own Big Lunch at Discovery Point on Sunday 3 June (Volunteer Scotland’s Volunteers Week 1 – 7 June), where he was welcomed by his family and friends, individuals and groups from the local community, some of whom have played an important part in Angus’s life. Over 100 people were there to welcome Angus home, including community groups from the Dundee area, including some from along the route and members of the public that want to come along get involved and show their support. Angus’s brother, Iain Mcleod, has helped to organise his event and got involved by providing the buffet to celebrate his brother's endeavour.

This burial can be found in Krämarkapellet - The Merchant's chapel. It was built some time after 1450, by the merchants of the city, with the official name of St Jörgens chapel (St Jörgen is the Danish name for St George - who is depicted on one of the walls). The chapel has a fine set of paintings on the walls and the in the ceiling, unlike the rest of the church which is all white - the way it was painted after the Reformation.
St Peter's church (or St Petri, as the Danish and Swedish name is) was built in the beginning of the 14th century, a Gothic church made of bricks, replacing an older, Romanesque, from the beginning of the 13th century, before Malmö was even a town and just a small village. The high altar of the Gothic church was consecrated in 1319, though work probably continued for a while longer.
In 1529 the church was overrun by people caught up in the Reformation who caused quite a havoc, removing all traces of the Catholic faith - Malmö, under the direction of Claus Mortensen, was a stronghold for the Reformation at the time. Being buried in the church was very popular after the Reformation and after 1666 all the slots were taken in the floor, which meant that the only way to get a place was to buy an already used one - and burial plots became quite an investment. 1783 it became forbidden to sell and buy those slots - and in 1822 it became forbidden to bury people inside of churches - due to sanitation laws. In 1858 the church was renovated and almost all tombstones were buried underneath a new floor. But in a subsequent renovation, in the beginning of the 20th century, the stones were rescued from obscurity, and many placed in the Krämarkapellet to keep them protected.

We use a grocery delivery service called Spud, and these are one of the items that came today. I had to photograph them before I ate one because I think they look beautiful.

Jaguar Land Rover has launched its first APPROVED used-car facility in Dubai. The state-of-the-art showroom seeks to enhance and improve a customer’s experience when purchasing an APPROVED pre-owned vehicle.
Back in April 2015 I visitedMalahide castle and the weather was beautiful but it become so warm that the camera overheated and when I got home I discovered that many of the images were so underexposed that I could not use them. Today as I have different software and hardware available I decided to have a look again at the RAW files and this times the result was much better.
Malahide Castle, parts of which date to the 12th century, lies close to the village of Malahide, nine miles (14 km) north of central Dublin in Ireland. It has over 260 acres (1.1 km2) of remaining parkland estate, forming the Malahide Demesne Regional Park.
Malahide Castle and its demesne was eventually inherited by the 7th Baron Talbot and on his death in 1973, passed to his sister, Rose. In 1975, Rose sold the castle to the Irish State, partly to fund inheritance taxes. Many of the contents, notably furnishings, had been sold in advance, leading to considerable public controversy, but private and governmental parties were able to retrieve some.
The castle, along with its subsidiary attractions, was for many years operated as a tourist attraction by Dublin Tourism, working with Fingal County Council, which owns the whole demesne. The operating partner is now Shannon Heritage, which has in turn appointed subsidiary partners, most notably, for shop and café facilities, Avoca Handweavers.
The castle itself can be visited for a fee, on a guided-tour-only basis. In addition, it is possible to hire the famously Gothic Great Hall for private banquets. The castle's best-known rooms are the Oak Room, and the Great Hall, which displays Talbot family history. In the courtyard behind the castle are a café and craft shop, and other retail facilities.
The Talbot Botanic Gardens, situated behind the castle, comprising several hectares of plants and lawns, a walled garden of 1.6 hectares and seven glasshouses, including a Victorian conservatory. Many plants from the southern hemisphere, notably Chile and Australia, are featured. The gardens showcase the plant collecting passion of the 7th Lord Talbot de Malahide in the mid 20th Century.
The demesne is one of few surviving examples of 18th century landscaped parks, and has wide lawns surrounded by a protective belt of trees. It can be visited freely, with a number of entrances and car parking areas.
In addition to woodland walks, and a marked "exercise trail," the park features sports grounds, including a cricket pitch and several football pitches, a 9-hole par-3 golf course, an 18-hole pitch-and-putt course, tennis courts and a boules area.
Adjacent to the golfing facilities, and containing the access to them, is a pavilion which also contains a café and other facilities.
There is an extensive children's playground near the castle.
A seasonal road train operates in a loop from the vicinity of the castle to the railway station and back. A Malahide castle and coastal tour bus begins its journeys in Malahide Castle and continues to Howth, with two daily departures.
