I had more or less decided that I was switching from expensive DSLRs to using the Sony NEX-7 [and whatever replaced it] as the camera that I would use for street photography. I was hoping to upgrade from the NEX-7 to the A7R but while I might be able to afford the body this side of Christmas there is no way that I could afford a set of suitable lenses within a reasonable time period.
At the end of May I got the opportunity to purchase a Sigma DP3 Merrill at €399.00 including delivery to Dublin so based on a number of reviews I decided to take a gamble and purchase one. I had to wait almost two months and I was about to cancel the order but it arrived a few days ago and I got a chance to test it today.
There is no doubting the fact that the DP3 Merrill is very different to anything that I have used to date [including the original DP1 or DP2] and while I am glad that I got it there are many issues. The main problem is battery life, there is no way that 45 photographs per charge is acceptable. The second problem is that Adobe Lightroom does not recognise the output from the DP3 Merrill [I only shoot in RAW] so one must use the software that is supplied by Sigma. Sigma Photo Pro is not as bad as some may have you believe but in my case I am not at all keen to add another stage to the process.
The third problem is that I am really limited to shooting at ISO100 so it is a waste of time shooting in poor light and there is plenty of that here in Dublin.
The Sigma DP3 uses an excellent 50mm f/2.8 prime lens which is the equivalent of a 75mm optic on a 35mm camera. The lens design features ten elements in eight groups, and there's a seven-bladed aperture diaphragm. Focusing is possible to as close as 8.9 inches (22.6cm), and maximum magnification is 1:3 (0.33x). There's no image stabilisation which may make the camera less suitable for street photography.

Using my continuous light and a black fleece blanket I just bought, I'm trying to get better at portrait photography. The only model I have available right now is myself, but I will soon practise on my mother and some friends.
Used on the TV Drama London's Burning after London Fire Brigade Vehicles were removed from the programme.
Used to bell out ends of copper tubing to make a slip joint when reconnecting the evaporator. Kit also contains a flaring tool but this is not used for any Monitor Top work. Had this kit not been available, I would have used commercially made joiners. Note that copper tube used for refrigeration is not the same as that used for domestic plumbing. Refrigeration tubing is dehydrated and filled with nitrogen when manufactured. Sizing is also different with sizes referring to outside diameter rather than inside.

Designer Nynke Tiekstra chose Karmina Sans for the setting of the scientific book A Manual for the Identification of Plant Seeds and Fruits. Karmina Sans was used to get a clear publication: "still scientific, but alive. Due to the shortness of the texts and high amount of images it turned out to be a wonderful choice".
Located in the Revitalization District of East 11th Street, this Vertical Mixed Use project will become unique focal point in a quickly growing neighborhood. The project includes 11 retail stores and offices, 20 residential condominiums of which 20% are affordable housing, and roof top decks accessible by all residents. The unique solar screen on the south and west facades is just one of the many aspects of the design that contributes to the 3-Star Green Building Rating. The East Village is also one of the City of Austin’s S.M.A.R.T. (Safe, Mixed-Income, Accessible, Reasonably Priced, Transit Oriented) Housing developments.
The East 11th Street neighborhood in Austin has seen considerable change since 2001. Once a largely ignored portion of Austin, E. 11th Street is now home to many different retail shops, restaurants, offices, and cultural groups. Block 19 seeks to capture this diversity by developing a dynamic and creative environment for its residents, combining retail shops and small commercial offices with residential units on the upper floors. On the fourth floor are two green roofs; each with a wonderful view into downtown.
The design of the building incorporates modest materials in creative and dynamic ways. The entire ground level is full height glass mounted in front of a steel structure. This gives the illusion of the entire building floating on cubes of glass. To further enhance the visual `lightness` of the building, the entrance to the site is under a long span steel truss that supports 2 stories of residential units across a 65 ft span. The upper south and west facades are shielded from the hot Texas sun with a multi-faceted steel panel screen which double as a shading device and guardrails for the residential balconies.
Instead of relying on expensive, high maintenance green `gadgets`, Block 19 showcases the architects’ incorporation of sustainability into the fundamentals of the building. In addition to the steel sunscreen, features such as insulated Low-E glazing, recycled and recyclable materials, no VOC paint, R-19 insulated walls, R-30 insulated roof, passive insect control, construction waste recycling, and low impact native landscaping all work together to make the East Village Lofts a healthy building for the residents and the community.

In the 1970s, when I used to stay at my Grandparent's house when my Mum and Dad went disco dancing, or whatever they called it before disco dancing was a thing, there was a TV series they used to watch called "How Green was my Vaelley". I remember little of it, except Granddad saying the valley was go green because of all the rain.
So, on Sunday, the rain was due to fall in the valleys, the hills and all else between.

Rain fell, roads were nearly flooded, so we splish-splashed our way across the county, down valley and up hills until we came to the entrance of an estate.
Here be a church.
Not sure if we could drive to it, I got out and walked, getting damp as the rain fell through the trees.
But the church was there, and open, if poorly lit inside. And I was able to get shots before walking up the hill to the car.

The church in the Lime Wood
This secluded medieval delight is a near-complete twelfth-century church.
Located in Linley, meaning Lime Wood, it is built entirely from local rubble stone except for the dressing stones and a tiled roof. The Norman church, complete with late twelfth-century tower, was built as a chapel for the beautiful medieval town of Much Wenlock. The south doorway was possibly relocated when the tower was built, and the ancient studded door has strap hinges. The north doorway is blocked but its weathered tympanum features a mysterious green man.
The interior contains more Romanesque carving as illustrated by the round tub font. The decoration consists of carved cable-moulding around the rim, and medallions which, on the north side, emerge from the mouths of demonic masks. Some restoration in the nineteenth century led to tiled floors throughout, with encaustic tiles in the sanctuary by Maw & Co. In 1858 Sir Arthur Blomfield paid for the enlargement of the nave windows, the rebuilding of the east wall with a new window, the installation of new benches, and pews and choir stalls with shaped ends and open backs. The chancel has a panelled dado made in 1858 from former pews.
A particularly charming addition is the altar triptych of a cross and angels painted on board, by Harry Burrows circa 1870.

St Leonard's Church is in the hamlet of Linley, Shropshire, England. It is a redundant church under the care of the Churches Conservation Trust.[1] When it was in active use, the church was an Anglican parish church in the deanery of Telford Severn Gorge, the archdeaconry of Ludlow, and the diocese of Hereford. Its benefice has been united with those of All Saints, Broseley, St Bartholomew, Benthall, St Giles, Barrow, and St Mary, Jackfield.[2] The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building.
St Leonard's originated as a chapel of ease to Holy Trinity, Much Wenlock in the 12th century, with the tower built later in the century. During the 19th century (before 1855) a pyramidal tower was added to the tower. The church was restored in 1858 by Arthur Blomfield, during which the nave windows were enlarged, the east wall was rebuilt and a new triple window inserted, new benches were installed, the floor was tiled, and a piscina was added in the sanctuary.[3] The church was declared redundant on 24 September 2007,[4] and was vested in the Churches Conservation Trust on 15 July 2013.
The church is almost completely Norman in style.[5] It is constructed in sandstone with tiled roofs. The plan consists of a nave, a narrower and lower chancel, and a west tower. The tower is in two stages on a plinth, with pilaster buttresses supporting the lower stage. In the bottom stage is a straight-headed west window, and small round-headed windows on the north and south sides. The upper stage contains double bell openings.[3] These are set in recessed twin arches, and above them is a corbel table.[5] On the summit is a pyramidal roof with a weathervane.[3] In the nave is a Norman south doorway with simple imposts and a tympanum decorated with zigzag bands.[5] The blocked north doorway, also Norman, has a tympanum carved with a Green Man, a figure with its legs apart and foliage extending from its mouth.[1][5] The windows in the nave are straight-headed. The windows in the north and south walls of the chancel are small and Norman. In the east wall of the chancel are three round-headed windows dating from the 19th-century restoration.[3]
Interior
Inside the church the walls are plastered. The tower arch has semicircular responds, and capitals decorated with volutes and beaded ornamental bands. The chancel arch is plainer, with simple imposts. Between the east windows are arches with scalloped capitals. In the south wall of the sanctuary is a piscina. The Norman font consists of a round tub, decorated around the rim with cable moulding.[3] The exterior of the tub is carved with medallions, some of which are surrounded by bands originating from the mouths of demons, in the style of Green Men.[1][3][5] The wooden pulpit is polygonal in shape. On the east walls of the nave are metal commandment boards.[3] The reredos, dating from about 1870, was designed by Harry Burrows; it is a triptych containing a cross and angels, and is painted on board.[3][5] Also in the church is a hatchment dated 1803, and in the blocked north doorway is the grave slab of two Roman Catholic monks who died, respectively, in 1779 and 1803. The stained glass in the east windows, dated 1862, depicts the Resurrection, and was designed by William Warrington.
