this technique of performing your effects on a duplicate layer gives a large leeway of creativity without damageing your original image. i like to sometimes blur out the top layer and then erase the blur down to the background layer. great for isolating the subject from a busy background without elaborate masking techniques. just one way of working.

If you need more room to tie a knot, just push the fabric back to expose more cording.
