Built in 1965 as Hull # 210 by by Pacific Coast Engineering in Alameda, California as the Sea Lion for Crowley Marine. One of two Daring Class Crowley tugs, she was built with a single 3,500 hp engine. A desire to create more powerful tugs resulted in the first twin-engine Crowley tugboats. The culmination of this process can be gleaned from her similarity in appearance to the infamous Invader Class of tugs.

Stepping back in time to the 1980-90s. The picture shows the river Tyne in much more prosperous times. The tug is the Ironsider and it is manoeuvring the Outer Gabbard lightship to a small repair yard, known by the locals as the Haddock Shop. It was part of Smiths Shiprepairers Company, which used to repair a lot of these types of vessels, Sadly the yard is no more and where the yard used to be, it is now a luxury housng estate, with river views over a once busy river

Neither of my poodles are great tuggers, but I've taught them both to do it. Sometimes I think they are just humoring me.

The tug Victory with the barge James L. Kuber loads pet coke from Detroit's waterfront. This is the last shipment to leave the controversial location where huge mounds of the product were stored illegally along the river. The rotting hulk of the once prestigious Michigan Central RR Depot rests in the background.
Detroit Mayor Dave Bing has ordered piles of petroleum coke being stored on the banks of the Detroit River be removed.
In a statement issued Tuesday, the mayor said Detroit Bulk Storage failed to remove all of the pet coke by Aug. 9, "as directed by a Correction Order issued by the City’s Buildings, Safety Engineering and Environmental Department."
The department cited Detroit Bulk Storage for being in violation of the Detroit property maintenance code and/or official zoning ordinance.
Bing has now ordered the pet coke be removed by Aug. 27.
The mayor also ordered that between now and Aug. 27, the pet coke must be covered by a tarp "to protect the public health and safety of our residents."
"We are keenly aware of the health concerns of our neighbouring residents and are firmly committed to resolving this situation as soon as possible," Bing said in a statement.
Last month, video of pet coke dust blowing off the piles and floating over the Detroit River surfaced on Youtube.
Here's Kai playing Tug Of War with his Kong. He always wins. If you didn't let him you would be on the ground flat on your back. Peeking from behind the leg is little Chancey.
