Stourhead was one of the first country villas to be built in the new Palladian style. The central part of the house was destroyed by fire in 1902 but was restored and completed in 1907. It was given to the National Trust in 1947.
Its world-famous landscape garden has a magnificent lake, classical temples and grottoes with rare and exotic trees. Unfortunately, on the day I visited the lake had been partially drained for renovation work. What water remained was covered in algae and the Pantheon was covered in scaffolding and sheeting for restoration work. Such is life!
For day 2 of our half-term trip down south we chose the secluded Ayrmer Cove as our destination for the day. We were extremely lucky with the weather for the entire holiday so we enjoyed a warm sunny day at a small wonderful beach we pretty much had for ourselves! Starting from a National Trust car park the route leads downhill in between fields to reach the stunning coastline. The rocks that line the cove have a fantastic silvery shine - very similar to the rocks that can be found at the north coast of Devon in Ilfracombe.
You can ‘TRUST’ me when I say I will be thrilled when the leaves have all fallen from the trees. This photo is only today’s contribution.

Trust that your soul has a plan, and even if you can’t see it completely, know that everything will unfold as it is meant to.
I had been searching for a Mother, and I have found her in the Catholic Church. Nay, the Church itself is the Mother of the faithful. In her motherly hands, severity is tempered by mildness; discipline conduces to a healthy freedom; inebriation and sobriety, feeling and dogma, emotion and reason are duly balanced; the Sacraments are the regular channels of grace and the Holy Spirit; the Bible is a part of a living tradition, the liturgical year is a tree planted by the streams of water, bearing flowers and yielding fruits for each season; asceticism becomes a source of gaiety and festivity; sanctity becomes the true romance of life; and mysticism is transformed into a living fountain of virtues. There is unity in diversity, and diversity in unity. True individuality is realized in catholicity. St. Thérèse has said it for me, “Fear makes me shrink, whereas under love’s sweet rule I not only advance—I fly.”

We stopped off at the National Trust gardens and café - morning drinks, stroll round the garden and grounds and then lunch. It did rain at times but not too much.

Today we went to Polesden Lacey and I found a few more lone chairs to add to my National Trust chair project.
