I can always trust my young boys to find interesting small subjects to photograph. This caterpillar was found on a brick lamppost under a Sitka Spruce at the end of our driveway two summers ago. (Western Tussock Moth: Orgyia vetusta, formerly Hemerocampa vetusta).

Corfe Castle is a fortification standing above the village of the same name on the Isle of Purbeck, Dorset. Built by William the Conqueror, the castle dates back to the 11th century and commands a gap in the Purbeck Hills on the route between Wareham and Swanage.
Early-purple orchids (Orchis mascula) are coming back to the reserve though they are growing in abundance on the other side of a dry wall fence. I saw only one last year (www.flickr.com/photos/sergeysmirnov/52073708840/). Visiting the Reserve today I spotted quit a few growing along a steep muddy path. This pair caught my attention. Thistles are generally unwelcome guests in gardens, but this one was allowed to show off its colour in Bodnant Garden, Wales. It seems it is garden-friendly.

Tyntesfield was saved by the National Trust and is a wonderful timecapsule of Victorian life in a grand house, upstairs and downstairs. It is just outside Bristol near Wraxall in North Somerset. It comes to life in Spring!

Open Ended
The sculpture Open Ended by the American artist Richard Serra weighs almost 216 tonnes. The corten steel work is 4 metres high, 18 metres long and 7 metres wide.
This is a piece full of contrasts: both heavy and elegant, industrial and organic, stately and playful, convex and concave. Six vaulted steel plates moulded together form a maze. Open Ended is a work best experienced by walking through it.
