Today (18 August 2024), there is an article in the Sunday Times about Lanhydrock House and especially the ceiling of the Long Gallery. It is currently undergoing restoration. The Long Gallery was built for John Robartes, the wealthiest man in Cornwall, and it's thought to have been decorated between 1636 and 1640. Robartes employed a troupe of southwest artisans to create scenes from the Book of Genesis (which, coincidentally, I was scanning through first thing this morning before the paper arrived).
According to Professor Mark Stoyle, professor of early modern history at the University of Southampton, it is "probably the best plaster ceiling in the country".
Thanks to the work that the National Trust is doing, visitors have for the first time the chance to see the ceiling up close.

Stelae (tombstones) were Thomas Legh's most important discovery whilst in Athens in 1812. The stele above the chimneypiece depicts an aristocratic Athenian couple, Melisto and Epigenes.
The one on the right of the window bay includes theatrical masks so probably commemorates a playwright or actor.
Lewis Wyatt (1777-1853) created the library in the early 19th century by throwing together the apartments occupied by Richard Legh in the late 17th century.
Lyme was once home to the Legh family and, in its heyday, a great sporting estate.

A plan based on historic accounts, original designs, plant lists and references has been created. This plan is inspired by the creativity and vision of Sir Nathaniel Curzon, the first Lord Scarsdale. It provides the missing piece to Kedleston's complete 18th century experience, inside and out.
Kedleston Hall is an extravagant temple to the arts. Commissioned in the 1750s by Nathaniel Curzon whose ancestors had resided at Kedleston since the 12th century. The house is framed by historic parkland and boasts opulent interiors intended to impress.
Designed for lavish entertaining, Kedleston Hall displays an extensive collection of paintings, sculpture and original furnishings, reflecting both the tastes of its creators and their fascination with the classical world of the Roman Empire.
Inherited by George Nathaniel Curzon, Viceroy of India between 1899 and 1905, the hall also houses the many objects he amassed during his travels in South Asia and the Middle East, and in his role leading British rule in India.

Built for Alexander John Forbes-Leith, 1st Baron Leith of Fyvie (1847-1925).
B listed.
A covered, detached squash court building, in vigorous crenellated and bartizaned neo-Baronial style. Harled with red sandstone dressings and finely carved inset heraldic panels in Italian marble and sandstone.
On the south gable is a carved Italian marble fountain basin inset in a blind gothic window. Grazed pitched roof and clerestory windows. The lean-to along west wall contains a bowling alley with concrete floor and timber ditches.
