The best way to manage the heath at Kinver Edge sensitively is to graze it with cattle. The National Trust use a herd of English Longhorn cows, an ancient breed, who crush the bracken, chomp on bramble and nibble leaves and grass. Their trampling creates bare sandy areas that bees nest in and releases heather seeds. By roaming around they naturally create a ‘mosaic’ of different habitats across the landscape, which is ideal for wildlife.

A nice reflective one of Paddy caught behind some winter grasses whilst in the midst of Wark Forest, a large coniferous woodland in Northumberland. He was quite sated and calm, hence the calm gaze at this stage as we had done about 10 miles, only 2 more to go.

I was very tempted to present this image in black and white, but I just loved the muted earthen tones. Having some photographic fun at Paradise Woods, Little Wittenham. Could not resist the face in the tree, it seems so animated!
Saw this today out on one of the ponds on Bookham Common - got the bike out today for the first time for ages .

I went past this spot and there was a duck walking on water - on my way back there was still a duck walking on water ( same one or not , I do not Know ) ,so a shot was order of the day .

(Captured with Lumix DMC-FX07 out of an underwater box. Nevertheless the camera had to be repaired afterwards. Dust particles of the Sahara are getting everywhere!)
