Photo of the day February 25, 2021 - Another spectacular sunset in Fairmont, NC this evening. I snapped the image just prior to heading home to spend the evening with my wife.
Always a joy to find beauty on a cold gloomy winter day. Raptors are looking their prettiest this time of year, it is mating season for them.
Red-shouldered Hawk (Buteo lineatus)
White Rock Lake, Dallas

Autumnal apple hanging heavy on the bough, dangling just over a tall garden wall (I had to stand on tip-toes and hold the phone up to get a quick snap!)
How nice of him to turn around & let me get a shot of his other side. Those yellow feathers look so soft.
Male Yellow-headed Blackbird (Xanthocephalus xanthocephalus)
White Rock Lake, Dallas Texas

View large size to see these juicy red crabapples (I think that is what they are)
Photo: Taken in Russell Township, Ohio located in rural Geauga County.
I took this shot directly below it. Always need this kind of view to get the species confirmed. Such a beautiful & cooperative cicada.
Resh Cicada (Megatibicen resh)
Persian Silk Tree (Albizia julibrissin)

These winter warblers are all over the place right now. You can hear their staccato chip calls coming from all over the trees and bushes. They are feasting on all kinds of seeds and berries. This one was watching me as I walked the creek bank.
Yellow-rumped Warbler "Myrtle" (Setophaga coronate)

HBW and happy 12.12.12! :)
I'm so incredibly thankful to have a [digital] camera again, and the big, bad mama III, at that! Life seems more magical when you can make little moments last forever.

I have no idea why these trees are blooming already. The winter has not been exceptionally warm or cold. The mustard flower is blooming as well in local fields. Maybe we are having an early spring!
The whole neighborhood knows Junior's exact location. He is how I discovered the tree down the street was being used for food drops.

Female Osprey protects her eggs & babies 24 hours a day while the male continually seeks to brings food to the nest.

"Nesting Ospreys defend only the immediate area around their nest rather than a larger territory; they vigorously chase other Ospreys that encroach on their nesting areas.
Unique among North American raptors for its diet of live fish and ability to dive into water to catch them.
Ospreys are unusual among hawks in possessing a reversible outer toe that allows them to grasp with two toes in front and two behind. Barbed pads on the soles of the birds' feet help them grip slippery fish. When flying with prey, an Osprey lines up its catch head first for less wind resistance.
The Osprey readily builds its nest on man-made structures, such as telephone poles, channel markers, duck blinds, and nest platforms designed especially for it.
Osprey are long-distance migrants. Most Ospreys that breed in North America migrate to Central and South America for the winter"
From the Cornell Lab of Ornithology
I see these guys hunting around on the forest floor all the time, I never knew they were the legendary Hermit Thrush! These guys have the most incredible songs I've ever heard from such a small creature!

Once again I was stumped as to what to do for this week's Flickr Friday theme. My wife suggested I use the lens ball. So, that is what I did on this rainy Sunday. Here are some trees and a bird feeder flipped upside down. #Flip #FlickrFriday
I got this last shot of the osprey as it flew off the 2nd perch. I did not follow it again. I wanted to let it eat its meal in peace.

Japanese Garden, Portland, OR
I must like this tree after all. This poor tree is the other tree always left behind and ignored while the most popular Japanese Maple tree in the garden gets all the attention. It was raining again today, but the colours are getting vivid and the garden was fantastic today. For this tree, I always liked to compose it tight to show the branches serpentine through the autumn foliage.
