I took one last shot of the youngsters before leaving them on day 4 of observing them. Sitting side by side, quiet for once, looking around and waiting for someone to bring them more snacks. Junior on the left & Brother on the right.

He was messing around on the other side of the tree branch giving me only a butt shot. Then he popped his head up and showed me what he found. Some kind of green squishy larvae with tiny wings, possibly newly emerged and still soft. Yummy bird snack.

this place is actually incredible. This branch is part of this incredible tree, it literally looks like the Tree of Life / Home Tree from Avatar. I haven't shot it yet because I want to use a wide-angle, and the only lens I have that goes wide is my kit lens (which is a little broken and makes part of the image blurry) but I will shoot it soon, somehow!
On week 4 with the barred owls there is no change. Dad is still guarding from his new perch.

In March I had an opportunity to visit my sister in Victoria, Texas. While visiting we toured many areas where I was able to get a photo shoot in. On this day we stayed in Victoria and traveled to the outskirts where this lazy river was flowing. Right on that river bank was a bar and grill where we relaxed with a Martini and shrimp. Such a nice view from their outdoor deck! Some of the views are abstract with many reflections. I will be uploading each place separately as I get them ready to view. The bird was nice enough to turn around and let me get the back side also. We only see these flycatchers as they migrate thru, they don't winter or raise babies in Texas.

This little cutie is a bandit of sorts - stealing the bird seed I put out any chance he got. Too bad he was so cute!
I was happy to discover that adult kites were also using this tree to perch. I saw this one fly in & went to check it out. Love having this just 3 houses away from my home. Thought it was a food delivery but there were no juveniles in the tree at that moment. Tried out my kite whistle & got "the look" again. They don't seem to be disturbed or alarmed by my presence, but I do get a curiosity vibe.

..almost June..it doesn't seem possible. We finally have some sunshine and a little bit warmer temps...high 80's and 90 on Saturday. That's a little too hot for me. Happy Tuesday.
Thank you, my friends, for all the views, faves and comments.
Nothern cardinals (Cardinalis cardinalis)mated pair. Colonial Park, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
Song...
The northern cardinal is a territorial song bird. The male sings in a loud, clear whistle from the top of a tree or another high location to defend his territory. He will chase off other males entering his territory. He may mistake his image on various reflective surfaces as an invading male, and will fight his reflection relentlessly. The northern cardinal learns its songs, and as a result the songs vary regionally. Mated pairs often travel together.
Both sexes sing clear, whistled song patterns, which are repeated several times, then varied. Some common phrases are described as cheeeer-a-dote, cheeer-a-dote-dote-dote, purdy, purdy, purdy...whoit, whoit, whoit, whoit, what-cheer, what-cheer... wheet, wheet, wheet, wheet and cheer, cheer, cheer, what, what, what, what.
I've seen this arched tree on my bike ride and I've always thought it looks so elegant as it gracefully bends over the cattails. I've been waiting for a dense fog to create a photograph that captured a soft and poetic mood. Finally, I was able to capture it as I envisioned.
Tried to get one more shot when he flew to a crepe myrtle tree but he flatly refused to turn around. That's ok, he is pretty from this side too.

A Black Squirrel accidentally looses it's walnut . Just seconds before this he was eating the walnut, but I guess he got nervous with me pointing my lens at him !I hope he found the walnut on the ground after I left him.
It is the Black Squirrels in this town that carry that special gene to produce white squirrel babies. Thanks to that special gene , there is a population of over 50 of these rare White Squirrels.

A few lingering Sassafras leaves resist the inevitable as they continue to be battered by the gusty winds of October.
All I knew when I saw this grasshopper was that I'd never seen one like it before. Turned out I had, the tiny green one grandson Everett caught in June was a younger version of this one. This is a middle stage of the prairie boopie grasshopper. My 2nd of this species. I want to find an adult next, they are black.

Kind of an odd shot but what the heck!
This unique beach is famous for the salt-washed skeletons of live oak and cedar trees that once grew near the shore.

These are quite the challenge to photograph. They stay so high in the trees & are constantly on the move. I have to settle for cropping to get a close up.
