A low branch of a healthy eastern cottonwood (Populus deltoides, Salicaceae) has been stripped of its bark before a soft bokeh of tree branches and twigs.

Normally hummingbirds chase one another all over the garden, expending un-measurable amounts of energy, all to "protect" their nectar/sugar water sources. Today was the first time in five years of observations that I've ever seen them sit together in the same tree, let alone upon the same branch.

Captured at Mississippi River Community Park in Anoka Co., central Minnesota.

Bio: The Cedar Waxwing is a member of the family Bombycillidae or waxwing family of passerine birds. It is medium-sized, mostly brown, gray, and yellow. Some of the wing feathers have red tips, the resemblance of which to sealing wax gives these birds their common name. It is one of the few North American birds that specializes in eating fruit. It can survive on fruit alone for several months. ~ Wikipedia

Visitors: Invited to peruse my photostream & albums for a gander at collections of various seasonal images of wildlife/scenics/florals.

It's melting fast today, but I managed to take a few shots. Tomorrow, the snow may come.

Photo of the day February 25, 2021 - Another spectacular sunset in Fairmont, NC this evening. I snapped the image just prior to heading home to spend the evening with my wife.

Always a joy to find beauty on a cold gloomy winter day. Raptors are looking their prettiest this time of year, it is mating season for them.
