is damaged but it's still alive ~ Owl Butterfly

When this Baltimore Oriole male flew in, most of the smaller birds scattered from his immediate vicinity.

My very First “official ”Picture taken in Hawaii, we were hiking up a mountain that boarded this beach, I looked over and Salk these tree branches screaming to be photoed 9/25/16

On our dog walk yesterday I spied a gorgeous magnolia tree loaded with white blossoms and covering the ground with petal 'snow'. One branch nearly reached the ground and my Portuguese Water Dog posed for another portrait, taking time to smell the flowers.

Hyacinth macaws are the world's largest macaw.

Poor baby was sound asleep when I walked by that tree. Opened its eyes to look at me but so tired it could not keep them open and soon was asleep again.

Nature’s first green is gold,

Her hardest hue to hold.

Her early leaf’s a flower;

But only so an hour.

Then leaf subsides to leaf.

So Eden sank to grief,

So dawn goes down to day.

Nothing gold can stay.

I love fall .. LOVE. Love love love love love love love love. So much. Yes.

:-)

I went on a mini photo adventure over lunch (partly because I still haven't taken any fall pictures and also because it's my last day with my camera), and I got so many strange looks and people stopping... Have you never seen a camera? Or a girl all giddy over the colorful leaves holding one? :))

I guess this counts as a second HBW. (I could easily make it 200; I was a bit snap-happy.) Who could resist these leaves?

"Sitting Saw-whet Owl" by Patti Deters. This Northern Saw-whet Owl (aegolius acadicus) was seen sitting in a pine tree branches in the middle of the day, though with the gently falling snow it seemed closer to dusk. These little brown streaked raptors are not generally seen during the day, much less perching out in the open. They are 'crepuscular' birds, which describes their preference for being active during periods of low light. The dreary winter weather may have given the nudge for this small owl to be awake and alert during the daytime. They prefer to roost in dense conifers during the day and hunt at night. The little predator didn't stay perched there for very long - perhaps it was too cold or there wasn't any food activity. Fluffy with big eyes, these birds are one of the cutest and smallest species of owls. Other species that are sometimes confused with the Saw-whet are the boreal owl (saw-whets are smaller and have less spots) and the Eastern screech owl which has ear tufts and more streaks in their feathers. Good Morning!

"If I had a day that I could give you,

I'd give to you a day just like today.

If I had a song that I could sing for you,

I'd sing a song to make you feel this way.

Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy,

Sunshine in my eyes can make me cry.

Sunshine on the water looks so lovely,

Sunshine almost always makes me high."

(Words by John Denver.)

Wishing you a day filled with sunshine and blessings.

And now you know my favorite song of all time.

Cherry Beach is a lakeside beach park located at the foot of Cherry Street just south of Unwin Avenue in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is on Toronto's outer harbour just east of the Eastern Gap. It was once connected with Toronto Islands as part of the former peninsula before 1852 and later was referred to as Fisherman's Island. It was originally named Clarke Beach Park after Harry Clarke, a Toronto alderman who was responsible for creating the park in the early 1930s. In 2003, the city changed it to Cherry Beach which is the local common name. Despite its location at the tip of Toronto's formerly heavily industrial Port Lands area, Cherry Beach has still been a popular gathering place for years. There is no boardwalk or proper picnic area, and much of the surrounding areas is marshland or leftover grounds from what was once commercial industry and factory grounds. Recently the park has undergone improvements which includes a paved entranceway and a renovated washroom and swimming change room facilities. For many years it was one of the few Toronto beaches that was clean enough for swimming, windsurfing and kitesurfing. It has change rooms for bathers and barbecue areas for picnickers. It also has an off-leash area for dog walkers. The Martin Goodman Trail passes through the park. In summer, the beach water is generally calm and slightly warmer than other Toronto beaches along the lake shore, as its shallow water is sheltered by the Leslie Street Split from direct surges of the Lake Ontario, However, there are extensive growth of seaweeds underwater that degrades the swimming experience.

"Winter Squirrel Huddle" by Patti Deters. This Grey squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis) has found a protected spot in the crook of a tree branch to shelter from the snow and wind. She has her tail wrapped around her back and over her head as if for extra protection against the cold Minnesota winter. She looks a bit scared and forlorn as she huddles alone in isolation. These little rodent mammals have double-jointed ankles that allow their feet to face both forwards and backwards which is why they are such great tree climbers. By tucking herself into a circular ball against the tree trunk, she has made a sort of natural minimalist piece of artwork. If you like this outdoor nature photograph, please see (animals, wildlife, fauna, more) at patti-deters.pixels.com/featured/winter-squirrel-huddle-p....

I can't think of a title for this so it remains untitled. The trees on my street fill up with crows around 7am and, again, around 5pm. Where do they go during the day?? Ahhh, the mysteries of life...

Image of a Nuthatch taken with my new Nikon camera. Borrowed the lens from my hubby, Neil. Ta very much Neil.

got pretty close to some grebes on the Mersey last week and they go and meet each over right where the branches are and I couldn't move because they would have stopped anyway stuck it on

Northern Hawk Owl (Surnia ulula) in the boreal forest of Saskatchewan, Canada. Northern Hawk Owls are uncommon and not well-studied.

A small house or cottage sits on the slope of a snow-covered hill as the moon shines above.

Another comp from my trip up the Hood River Valley earlier this year to remind everyone to set their clocks back tonight............:)

Heading out to brave the rain and the wind to see what Mother Nature has to offer on this cold Autumn day..............And to test out the new tripod since my old one abruptly asked to be retired last weekend...........lol

Will be back this evening to make my rounds on everyone streams...........♥

Have a great day..........!

Sanibel is a city in Lee County, Florida, United States, on Sanibel Island. The population was 6,469 at the 2010 census, with an estimated 2012 population of 6,741. It is part of the Cape Coral–Fort Myers Metropolitan Statistical Area. Sanibel is a barrier island – a collection of sand on the leeward side of the more solid coral-rock of Pine Island.

The city incorporates the entire island, with most of the city proper at the east end of the island. After the Sanibel causeway was built to replace the ferry in May 1963, the residents asserted control over development by establishing the Sanibel Comprehensive Land Use Plan in 1974 helping to maintain a balance between development and preservation of the island's ecology. A new, higher bridge, permitting passage without a bascule bridge (drawbridge) of tall boats and sailboats, was completed in late 2007.

Thanks to easy causeway access, Sanibel is a popular tourist destination known for its shell beaches and wildlife refuges. More than half of the island is made up of wildlife refuges, the largest being J.N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge. The Island hosts the Sanibel Historical Village and a variety of other museums and theaters, as well as many non-profit organizations like the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation, the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife, and the Sanibel Sea School. In August 2004, Hurricane Charley hit the island causing mandatory evacuation for the residents and resulting in the most storm damage to the island in 44 years.
