One of the hardest things about photographing the Redwoods is giving a sense of scale to these magnificent trees.
As we were hiking along the Founder's Tree Loop Trial, this couple came up behind us and stopped to allow me to take a photo. I told them that they could go ahead knowing that they would be a great addition to the image. When you compare them to the size of the trees and the root ball, you get a good appreciation of the size of these trees.
Location: Founder's Tree Loop, Rockefeller Forest, Avenue of the Giants.
I can think of no other place (in the world) that offers as much drama and interest as Dinorwic slate quarry. It probably missed it's opportunity to be declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site as so much of it is becoming dangerous and inaccessible to the general public.
This tree is naturally pale and sits near the bottom of the biggest and deepest hole in Dinorwic quarry
It's not really worth a million dollars, but the people who see it all day have named it their Million Dollar Tree. It's an old maple in east Memphis and is just gorgeous in the fall.
Derek and I assembled the aluminum Christmas tree today. We don't have a color wheel to go with it, so we tried to get a similar affect with a string of red LEDs.
This tree standing tall in an Ypsilanti, Michigan neighborhood has been showing off for a few weeks now and has not yet lost many leaves, as seen here on November 17, 2016..

Close to the lake of Storvatnet in Lofoten, there is a smaller (and in my opinion more photogenic) lake called Mevatnet. I had visited Storvatnet in the hope of capturing an image of some broken ice.
However, recent snowfall and cold temperatures ensured that there wasn't much to get my teeth into. On the road up I had noticed this smaller lake behind some trees and instead set off to see what I could find with the sheer impressive cliffs of the mountain behind as a backdrop. I found this small lone tree which created a lovely simple foreground to occupy the empty space made possible by the desolate scene across the lake.

Thursday I'm going to the hospital for open heart surgery. Say a prayer for my doctor, that the Lord will show him the best way to get me through this. I should be back in a couple of weeks.
I've been keeping my mind occupied by taking pictures with my new camera. It's just what I needed for some inspiration. I'll post some of my new pictures before I go to the hospital, and I'll also be working on catching up with y'all before I go also.
