For Allison, my oldest…… may you find beauty and joy wherever life takes you. Taken on a kayaking daytrip together this week along the shores of Lummi Island; a beautifully calm day, a long exposure helped to capture the essence. We started taking kayak trips together when she was going into 4th grade; at the end of this summer she will be leaving for her final year of college, with a wedding planned soon after graduation. So many great memories along the way…

The Olinda Falls, nestled in the lush Dandenong Ranges National Park about 45 km east of Melbourne, are a series of gentle, cascading waterfalls stretching roughly 180 metres from the upper falls down to the lower falls. Surrounded by towering mountain ash, ferns, and messmate stringybark trees, the falls offer a tranquil rainforest setting and are especially picturesque after rain.
It was a lovely sunny day in Bristol today so El and I headed up to Leigh Woods for a walk and some photo taking. We ended up on a different path than we planned to walk along but it worked out really well in the end as we could still have a mini photo shoot and we came across a tree full of birds to take photos of as well.

The tranquil sounds of a gentle waterfall, the serene feeling of nature around you, the warm dappled light falling gently through the trees…..this is bliss.
This was one of my last captures before calling it a night, well after sunset. I'm calling this "Tranquility", but behind the scenes I was feverishly using a cloth (Kimwipe) to clean the sea mist off my filter. My intent was to try and get some long-exposure cloud action in the sky, and since I don't have the Big Stopper, I needed to wait until it was getting really dark. I was sure glad I had my LED flashlight to make it back to the car.
This rock was sitting in a calm pool of water slightly up the beach at low tide. My tripod legs were spread wide with ball head only a few inches above the water. Dark enough for 30 second exposure even at f/8. Thanks for looking!

I was about as un-tranquil as I have ever been. All my midge repellant etc was elsewhere and I was being eaten alive for this shot, and all the others if I decide to process them, will be tough to beat this though,
I even had midgies in my ears, and one flew into my right eye just before I got back to the car.
I hate them, I hate them, I hate them
Anyway, I kinda forget all that when I see the result, tranquility kinda sums it up. One of the best sunsets I've seen for ages when I haven't been at work!

This is a 1/5 second exposure shot with my Trek-Pod II monopod. This photo is straight out of the camera, no editing or cropping at all. This was taken from the same location 26 minutes after the previous photo in my stream.
