Anaconda Copper Mining 20DE20 #27 at the World Museum of Mining in Butte, Montana on 10 April 2014. This 20-ton, 150hp unit was built by Whitcomb in February 1951 with serial number 61136. It has an ultra-low profile cab for mine work.

On January 22, 1984, Dad shot O&W SD40-2s 9955 (to BCOL 748) & 9950 (to BCOL 743, to ASDX 743) at the refueling racks in Etowah, Tennessee.
The power, cars and caboose were all owned by Shamrock Coal Company and used to haul coal to power plants in South Carolina and south Georgia. The SD40-2s were built to L&N specs, and crewed by L&N or Clinchfield crews (later SBD crews). The power would eventually be sold to British Columbia Railroad.

In June and July of 1976 Dad's B&B crew was working at Morley, TN and on three occasions Dad got to ride along with the crew of the Clairfield Local in the afternoon after his work crew had finished for the day.
The Clairfield Local worked the Trevilion Branch, which was a joint L&N/Southern line from Morley, TN to Fonde, KY. L&N locals originated out of Lafollette or Morley while Southern locals originated out of Jellico, TN.
On June 21, 1976 Dad took this shot from the cab of SCL C420 1213L (ex-SAL 111, to L&N 1352). This is the end of the line, the west end of the wye at Fonde, KY.
Picture was taken in the early afternoon from the road along the Silvis Rail Yard in Silvis, Illinois. Had the good fortune to have the background of a pretty deep blue sky on this late-Winter day.

On March 27, 1979, Dad shot SECX GP21 2002 (ex-UP GP20 488, nee-UP 718, to ARZC GP20 2002 to TMBL 2002) at Combs, Kentucky.
South East Coal Company, a unit of Tepee Coal, owned and operated their own locomotives, including old ALCo switchers, second-hand GP20s and newly bought GP38-2s.
This MRL SD45 is a former Wisconsin Central unit, still wearing WC paint. Before WC, this SD45 pulled freight for Norfolk Southern and Norfolk & Western before that.

Michigan Northern had a small handful of ex-C&NW RS3s. This one has had the C&NW logo painted over on the cab but typical for MN's units it hasn't been renumbered.

Southern Railway held onto their FP7As for a long time. They continued to operate the Crescent Limited for several years after the 1971 formation of Amtrak and these units were often used for power on that train, plus on the numerous excursion trips Southern ran. Here, two FP7As in Green, White & Gold haul four loaded boxcars and eight empty passenger cars through Somerset, Kentucky on a mid-June day in 1979. Both of these units would power Southern Railway excursions and OCS trains into the mid-80s before being sold to the New Georgia Railroad. Today, both are in operation at Stone Mountain Park in Georgia.
