L&N 4-6-2 152 at an unknown location and date. According to info on the back of the photo, this unit was retired in 1953, and I'm guessing the photo is near the end of it's career based on the streamlined passenger cars behind it. Maybe circa 1950?

On January 16, 1977, Dad shot L&N GP30 1070 (ex-SCL 1335, nee-SAL 536, to SBD 1399) at Etowah, Tennessee.

Photo taken October 1996.

 

Nebkota bought a trio of ex-Canadian National F9s in the late 1980s from VIA Rail. My dad and I found both F9As sitting just between Chadron and Crawford, NE in October 1996. Obviously there had been a minor mishap...

Eventually, all three Fs would be sold by Nebkota to the Canadian Pacific, which has them in active duty on business trains.

In May 1984 we took a train trip to California to see my Dad's folks. The trip out was aboard the Empire Builder from Chicago to Portland, OR.

 

On May 27, 1984 Dad shot BN GP30 2208 (ex-GN 3008) and GP9 1811 (ex-GN 659) with a local freight in the Glasgow, MT yard.

On March 1, 1996 Dad shot CSX GP40 6858 (ex-RF&P 124, to UP GP38-3 2509, to UP 1009, to KCS 1009) at Corbin, Kentucky. Just about a year later, this unit was rebuilt and on the Union Pacific roster.

WTNN B30-7 7855 (ex-NERR 7855, nee-SP 7855) at Jackson, Tennessee on January 30, 2013. The crew working in the yard on this day gave me permission to shoot on company property.

Sometime in March of 1977 Dad shot PC SD40 6283 (to CR 6283, to EMDX 6413) at Etowah, Tennessee.

Early in the morning, a new engine is just positioned in front of our train.

It will bring the train in at least 32 hours to Hanoi.

MRL SD70ACe 4300. Class unit for the series for MRL. Until these units most of MRL power had three digit road numbers, with only a few of them that were never renumbered from previous owners having four digit numbers.

Not long after the merger became official, Dad shot Seaboard System C30-7 7059 in Etowah, TN awaiting a new crew. This unit is ex-SCL 7059, to CSX 7059.

Part 95 in an ongoing study of diesel locomotive cabs.

An hour after shooting WGCR 6528 on a northbound CSX freight, Dad returned to the yard to pick up my uncle (he drives a crew transport van) and when he got there he found that 6528 had been set out by the train it was on. Still no idea where it was headed for.

C&C SW1001 1003 (to TennRail 1003, to KCS 1001) at Counce, Tennessee on May 30, 1979. Corinth and Counce was a shortline in West Tennessee and Northern Mississippi that ran between the towns of Corith, MS and Counce, TN. The line now a fallen flag, and Kansas City Southern owns and operates the tracks today.

This Montana Rail Link GP9 was working a siding in Billings. It came out from between two buildings pushing a gondola loaded with scrap metal and pulling an empty pulpwood flatcar.
