History taken from Wikipedia:
The Dakota Southern Railway (reporting mark DSRC) is a railway that runs 189.7 miles (305.0 km) between Kadoka, South Dakota and Mitchell, South Dakota. It connects with the BNSF Railway in Mitchell.
The line is part of a former Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad (CMStP&P) secondary built between Marquette, Iowa and Rapid City, South Dakota during the period of 1880 and 1907. The line lost profitability and was embargoed in 1980 and subsequently bought by the South Dakota Department of Transportation, which still owns the tracks. The purchase was orchestrated by Governor Bill Janklow.
The Dakota Southern also operated a line from Napa, South Dakota to Platte, South Dakota from 1985-1989.
The railway originally hauled large amounts of grain, but this business became unprofitable in the late 1990s. Between 2000 and 2007, the railway had just one customer—a box factory in Mitchell, South Dakota, and thus no trains passed that point. In 2005, however, the railway obtained a haulage agreement with BNSF to allow it to operate to Sioux City, where it could transfer with the Union Pacific Railroad and the Canadian National Railway, making grain service profitable again. After track repairs, service briefly resumed as far as Presho, South Dakota in the fall of 2007. While the line still officially goes all the way to Kadoka, a grade crossing in Vivian, South Dakota is currently paved over, as well as one in Belvidere.
On October 1, 2009 new owners took over the day to day operations of the railroad. They planned to rehabilitate the entire line to Murdo over the next 3 years. The first year was to be from Mitchell to White Lake, the 2nd year to Chamberlain and in the 3rd year rehabilitation would be carried out to Murdo.
In the spring of 2011 a 16 million dollar Federal Tiger grant was secured to help finance the 28 million dollar rebuild of 61.6 miles of the line between Mitchell and Chamberlain. Work began in late May 2011. According to former railroad owner Alex Huff, the 65 pound rail will be replaced with 136, 132 and 115 pound rail. As a result of the rebuilding, two competing companies have proposed building 110 car shuttle loading facilities near Kimball, South Dakota.

A steam locomotive pulling a passenger train from the Darjeeling train station (India)
The locomotive is configured backward on this train (it is going towards the left on the photo). Not that it makes a big difference, since those locomotives can be used equally in either direction.

The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, locally known as the "Toy Train", is a 2 ft (610 mm) narrow gauge railway that runs between New Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling (India). It is still operated by vintage British-built B Class steam locomotives. Operations between Siliguri and Kurseong have been temporarily suspended since 2010 following a Landslide at Tindharia (view photos of the landslide).

From the back of the card:
"Although Southern Pacific had not purchased any ALCO-built steam power since the mid-1920's (4-8-2's and 4-10-2's), prefering Baldwin and Lima 4-8-4's and 4-8-8-2's, the railroad seemed quite fond of Schenectady's powerful PA/PB model A1A-A1A diesel-electrics for passenger service. Between 1948 and 1953 it acquired 51 cab units and 13 booster units with 2000 and 2250-horsepower engines. None of the corresponding 1500-hp. B-B FA/FB freight service models, however, came to the SP; its freight trains were hauled by a large fleet of GM-EMD F-model units, though a number of C-C ALCO "all purpose" units with 1500 and 1600-horsepower engines were acquired in 1953. ALCO introduced its "Century" series of locmotives in 1963, and the largest model in the initial catalog was designated the C628, indicating six axles (all powered in C-C arrangement) and approximately 28-hundred horsepower (2750 to be exact).
Southern Pacific, impressed with the performance of the demonstrator set sent around by ALCO, purchased a group of twenty-five of the massive units (Nos. 4845-4869) in April, 1965. The railroad also acquired the four demonstrator units, numbering them 4870-4873. Then, only a couple of months later on July 1, 1965, the Southern Pacific adopted an entirely new numbering scheme for its locomotives, and the new C628's became the 7100-7128 (with the slightly older ex-demonstrators getting the lowest numbers). In this photograph, takend during the short period in the spring of 1965 when the ALCOS carried their first numbers, Nos. 4835 [sic], 4850 and 4852 are approaching the end of their difficult run over the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The C628's worked primarily between Sparks, Nevada, and Roseville, California, the two terminals at either side of the mountains, for their first few years. In 1969, however, the Studebaker-Worthington Corporation, which had purchased ALCO's locomotive business and production facilities, decided to close the big plant at Schenectady and cease locomotive production. Thereafter, ALCO lomocotives were shifted to routes of lesser importance and difficulty where maintenance would be less of a problem.

Drove down to the yard the evening of April 24, 2008 to see what was going on. Nothing was moving, but I found BNSF SD9-3 1712 (ex-BNSF 6176, xx-BN 6176, nee-CB&Q 374) sitting by the engine shop in this sad state. I don't know what happened to her, or when. It's recent though as she was fine just a couple days before this shot.
Looks like she got sideswiped pretty good all down the side. I think the point of impact was on the end of the long hood because the steps are missing back there, as is part of the rear walkway and railing. Whatever it was then progressed all the way down the side of the engine to the cab, which is slightly askew, leaning towards the short hood. At first I was afraid this might be the end for her, as she was only rebuilt a few years ago and has frequent maintenance issues, but she's still sitting there and crews have been working diligently to repair all of the cosmetic damage.
