Steam locomotives in the Darjeeling Train Yard (India)
The two locomotives in the back (#788 "Tusker" and -#782 "Mountaineer") are warm and ready to work. One of them will be used to pull the next train, while a spare one is kept ready in case of last-minute problems with the main one. Because it takes hours to heat-up the steam boiler, the two steam engines must be warm and ready hours before the train is scheduled to leave. A railroad worker is staying up all night and feeding coal in their furnaces to keep both engines warm.
The locomotive in the front (#804 "Queen of the Hills") is undergoing maintenance. It will get new wheels.

The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, locally known as the "Toy Train", is a 2 ft (610 mm) narrow gauge railway that runs between New Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling (India). It is still operated by vintage British-built B Class steam locomotives. Operations between Siliguri and Kurseong have been temporarily suspended since 2010 following a Landslide at Tindharia (view photos of the landslide).
For more info about the DHR steam locomotives, read en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DHR_778_(locomotive) and www.irfca.org/docs/locolists/dhr-locos-full.html.

According to the marker on the other side, this class Q-3 Pacific was built for the Northern Pacific in 1909 by Baldwin Locomotive Works and at one time was used as power on the NP's North Coast Limited, which was their premier passenger train. In its later years it was used to haul passengers and mixed freight on branch lines throughout North Dakota and was eventually donated to the North Dakota State Historical Society in 1955. It is currently on display at Camp Hancock State Historic Site in downtown Bismarck, ND.

The cab of CSX C40-9W 9002 at Etowah, Tennessee on January 19, 2015.
9002 is one of 3 test bed C44-9Ws built by GE on Dash 8 frames with Dash 8 hoods. Apparently there is some debate over the classification of these 3 units, but according to my research GE classified them as Dash 9s upon release to CSX and CSX has always classified them as Dash 9s. That said, this unit clearly bears the stencil marks of "C40-9W" on the cab, so that's either a mistake by someone or the unit was derated at some point (though I find no information on that).
