We were driving home from the St Louis area after completing a great trip on the Illinois section of Route 66. Earlier we had gotten soaked in a rain storm while trying to cross the Mississippi on an old retired bridge. We were cold, wet and rather miserable when we came upon this train parked on the track. Being train freaks, we ignored our discomfort and stopped to take many pictures before if finally began to move. Getting into our pickup truck, we followed it for many miles. Had we taken the paralleling Interstate, we would have missed all the fun completely. After being on 66, the idea of an Interstate was out of the question and we were rewarded for taking the old road.
