In Explore: celebrating the Earth; April 26, 2023.
This is the time of year when we all like to get out to a favorite trail to get our autumn trail shot. Here's mine.
Wexford Trails - I was in New Ross today and had some time to capture a few images at the stunning JFK Memorial Park.
Long exposure of the cathedral of Berlin by night. The cars and buses have left beautiful light trails.
An image taken about a year and a half ago having been inspired by the light works of J C Mills Photography....about an hour before sunrise in the Bolehill Quarry , Peak District....thanks for looking :)

My first star trail ... very much a test shot to learn some lessons for when I do it for real later in the year. The focus isn't quite right here but I put this down to it being 2am in the morning and the few nips of Laphroaig that I had consumed beforehand :D Also, still very much learning how to use my camera's intervalometer.
Over the long weekend, went on a hike on the hills of Malibu. Started at 7:30 AM and got back at the trail base around 12 Noon. It was an overcast day and being in the midst of the Santa Monica Mountain Range (a few miles from the Pacific Ocean), it was pretty cold by Los Angeles standard.
Malibu Creek State Park is where they filmed the TV show M*A*S*H (and they still keep the set), and some scenes in The Planet of the Apes.
We've just planted some bedding plants in our various garden pots and planters, including this blue trailing petunia, which has been the first to flower. It will hopefully be joined by various other colours in the next week or so.

there were two layers, the upper layer is simply making vertical strips to the photo and then took away alternate strips, the lower layer is rotating the photo 90 degree left and scale up to match the width !
The color is peaking and the leaves are starting to fall around here. My favorite time of year. I have been away for a few weeks and will try to catch up as I can.
As I was packing up after shooting the sunset in my previous post, I heard the telltale symphony of honks that gaggles of Canadian Geese make. I saw that they were heading my way, so I quickly framed up a shot of where I thought they might land, switched to video and adjusted my settings. Only the four that did the close flyby landed on the lake, but the framing worked out fairly well anyway.
As you can see, I applied the stacking technique I often use with my timelapses, creating the trails showing their flight paths.

Little Laurel Run from the Quehanna trail in Moshannon State forest. Nice two night trip doing the west cross connector loop.
The Trail Turn is almost done meandering along the Plummer Line with 25 gravel loads from the Strata Corporation in Trail. It takes about an hour to run between Trail and Plummer along the bumpy grade of the old Soo Line at a maximum speed of 10mph. I imagine the crew is happy to get onto the Detroit Lakes Subdivision and open the throttle up back to Thief River Falls.
