So many trails in Western North Carolina are the proverbial walk in the woods. The Hawksbill Mountain Trail is special. There are several spurs on the way to the summit that offer magnificent views of the Linvill Gorge below, but the payoff is to reach the top. The rock outcrops that form the hawk's bill are breath taking. It was a bit fogged in for today's hike, but still well worth the effort.

An early hike heading up the trail as the sun was rising. A cell phone shot so the quality wasn't what I normally like, but you use what you have, right?
Have a great weekend.

No better place to be on a lovely winter's day
This is the Memorial Forest Side Trail of the Bruce Trail... a gorgeous walk along the base of the escarpemnt which takes you by the base of Jones Falls and up through a crevice to the top of the escarpment.
Pulčínské skály in Czech republic about 90minutes from where we live is beautiful rock city with various of such trails in between rocks and it is actually quite easy to lose orientation but still it is quite small so in one day you can walk through the whole system.
I was down by the West Pier, at low tide, along with many other photographers. This is one of many photographs I took, but I liked this one because of the colours, reflections and the marks in the sand where the water had left trails.
Sweet Creek Trail has so many interesting aspects, waterfalls, catwalks bolted to the canyon walls, and the mysterious coastal rain forest full of ferns and hanging mosses..
The Mason-Dixon Trail is a 195 mile path that connects the Appalachian Trail in with the Brandywine Trail near the Delaware border. This section of the trail is located right along the western side of the Susquehanna. A beautiful walk even in the mist. Have a great weekend.
Trails made under the bark of a Eucalyptus tree by the larvae of the Eucalyptus Longhorned Borer (Phoracanta semipunctata). I presume that eggs were laid at this nest site where, upon hatching, the grubs started munching their way out in several directions. It makes for an interesting photo.
A beautiful trail, part of the Palm Canyon trail at the Indian Canyons near Palm Springs. You can see the tops of some of the palms in the canyon to the left.
Yes, snow on the tops of the mountains and a bit of a cloud cover, but wonderful shirt sleeve weather, not too hot, not too cool for a nice short hike.

This is a blue hour shot of the "Roussanou" monastery at the "Meteora" monastery complex in Kalampaka, Greece.
I shot the monastery on the rock a few minutes after the sunset, and then waited for the sky to get dark and for a car to pass by the road so I can record some car trails. After a lot of waiting and misses ( a car crossing from the other direction at the same time highlighting everything with its bright white headlights ) I finally captured the so desired car light trails and it was time to photoshop blend the two exposures. This is the result!

"The clouds that race me might be TRAILING IN COLORS... Over the lawns... And out of this song... And so high over the world then..."

Amtrak GE P42DC 100 wears another special paint scheme as it was trail-failing on the Capitol Limited at Harper's Ferry.
The 1997-built GE has been painted for Amtrak's 50th Anniversary. It had previously been painted to celebrate the US Postal Service and their 100th year.
The new blue was looking pretty good.
