The Ancient Romans marked the edge of their empire in Germany by erecting a boundary wall to signify where the frontier begins. Remains of the Limes Wall can still be seen today. We discovered this hiking trail while looking for the wall one cold November day.

Hiked the SCA trail this evening and was given this view.

Located in the Hastings-Sunrise district of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, New Brighton Park is a waterfront park facing the North Shore Mountains with beach access to the Burrard Inlet. The park is surrounded by industrial plants, the Hastings Racecourse, as well as access to the Port of Vancouver. During the summer, the park becomes a popular location for recreational activity. There is a soccer pitch, tennis courts, barbecue/picnic sites, two playgrounds, beaches, and an outdoor pool. New Brighton Park is also in the process of being connected to Hastings Park via Creekway Park, which will allow people to walk and cycle between the two locations.

Every year, Dozer and I enthusiastically take the initiative to keep our walking trail in great shape, and it's terrific to see that our efforts benefit so many! Countless animals depend on this path, and it warms my heart to know they can navigate without struggling through deep snow. This shared outdoor space is truly precious, especially with the increased coyote activity around. By maintaining this trail, we're not only enhancing our own winter adventures but also making life easier for the local wildlife. Let's unite in creating a winter wonderland that supports both humans and animals alike—after all, no one enjoys the hassle of stepping off the trail and sinking into that deep snow!

As my backyard faces south, all i need to do is to place my phone on tripod, set on "star trails" setting for 1-2 hours at least.

The bold arcs on the right of the images were formed by the Southern Cross constellation which has guided generations of explorers in the southern oceans at night.

Nerdy Facts: I can work out the exact degrees of the arc by simple calculation of the length of exposure. It was 6398 seconds or about 1.777Hours. Divide this by 24 hour gives me a factor of 0.074 of 360 degrees. Which is 26.65 degrees precisely.

The path to Marymere Falls is level and wide - unusual characteristics in Olympic National Park's trail network.

We only hiked on it a short distance to Craig Lake. 7.5 miles of it runs through the park, including along a river and a few of the lakes. We’d like to hike more of it the next time we go back!

Star trails shot with a single 53 min long exposure. Foreground lit by 23% moon. Started shooting about 45 mins after the sun went down.

While the stacking method of making star trail images does yield more prominent stars, I quite like the understated and faint look of the stars using the single exposure method. Personal taste I guess.

Thanks to all of you for your time, comments and favs. Truly appreciated..

Probably the smoothest part of the trail getting to Wheeler Monument. It is an adventure every time we go there.

After a day of solid clouds the sun made a dramatic appearance for the last hour of daylight. A mad scramble to find a train to shoot in this light led me to South Ferry on the Buffalo Line where the crew of NS 30T was calling it a day. They had tied their train down at the Appalachian Trail crossing and were heading for a crew van that had just arrived.

I walk along the trail of dreams immersed in mist and thought, and shake off the chill of reality where nothing is as it seems… A contrary way of thought, in this 21st century, that easies my weary soul: like avoiding the news.

The start of the Highline Trail from Logan's Pass, in Glacier National Park.

I only walked about a mile on this trail because we were limited on time, but WOW...it's on my bucket list and I can't wait to go back and hike the whole thing!

The road below the trail is Going to the Sun Road, which is the most amazing road I've ever been on. The views are constant, and just incredible.

Trails are not dust and pebbles on a hill,

Nor even grass and wild buds by a lake;

Trails are adventure and a hand to still

The restless pulse of life when men would break

Their minds with weight of thinking.

Trails are peace, The call to dreams, the challenge to ascent;

Trails are the brisk unfolding of release

From bitterness and from discouragement.

This Red-shouldered hawk was sitting high above the trail at the Springfield Nature Center. The Conservation Agents say there's a pair with a nest in the area. I've seen one fairly frequently but never two and I've not spotted any likely nest. This guy/gal was just enjoying a sunny day warming up.
