Today was overcast and extremely dreary for my walk along the trail so I decided to get off the beaten path and head for the overgrown sections.
Along the edge of Wildwood Park in Ventura County, before even entering the trails, are sections of overgrown plantlife. Just a few steps from the busy Avenida de los Arboles you find patches of flowers and cacti and even an occasional rabbit. Afterall, this is the Conejo Valley!

This is a different photo than I expected today, but snow in April wins over what I had planned. ALSO, a photo of a stranger?? This was a quiet goal for myself, and he certainly made it easier by approaching me for a photo. But still, I count this as a "riders among us" win. Lucky me, I live right near this trail. So, I was down there with camera in hand! (I'm so glad he was riding an orange bike for the pop of color.)

Taking advantage of time on hands to do some stuff i haven't tried for a while in the garage. Never know what will come out with this stuff but always love the shapes and 'figures' that I sometimes see in them!

View of Thansing valley from Dzongri meadows amidst heavy clouds. What followed next was steep descent to Kokchurong, right to the Prekchu river and then steady climb to Thansing.
Fenland Trail is an easy going, very level and well maintained walking trail in the Village of Banff, Alberta, Canada in the Banff National Park. Fenland is a nature trail and picnic area destination located in a wetland environment called a fen. A fen is a wetland marsh feed primarily by groundwater. It is a natural sanctuary for plants to thrive like sedges, moss and cat tails; trees like aspen, white spruce and poplar and wildlife like birds, elk and deer.
Some trails are happy ones,
Others are blue.
It's the way you ride the trail that counts,
Here's a happy one for you.

"The thrill of tramping alone and unafraid through a wilderness of lakes, creeks, alpine meadows, and glaciers is not known to many. A civilization can be built around the machine but it is doubtful that a meaningful life can be produced by it.… " ~William O. Douglas

It's been a while Flickr. Life is presenting some new opportunities to me lately, that are keeping me busy but excited. I travel or dream about trails every day though, always finding the direction I need inward by traveling outward.
The trail is like a border between ancient worlds. The earth behind this trail was formed 40 million years ago, in warm world of near-tropical, jungle-like forests.
The colorful red and golds hills represent a world with seasonality, 33 million years ago. Then, deciduous forests covered the land.
The distant ridgelines are topped with layers of flood basalts. These lava layers represent another world in time, 16 million years ago when enormous lava flods covered thousands of square miles of savanna-like ecosystems.
The trail to the Citadel led to a scramble down to the next level on the canyon wall. The land bridge and the Citadel can be seen in the distance. The ruins are on the other side of the formation.
This was only the first of several scrambles involved in the hike to the Citadel. A misstep could lead to a tumble to an untimely demise on the canyon floor. Luckily, there were no missteps!
It was a cold and windy day at Acadia, but the ice had melted a little on the trails. This shot was taken looking up the coast from near the bottom of Schooner Head trail.
