Just got back from Paris on business. Saw this spot when coming back from the Eiffel Tower in the summer but couldn't stop so vowed to go back. Was very lucky with the boat passing when it did and will be going back for a sunset when I'm back there for the same trip in September.
Taken just before sundown about a mile west of the entrance to Preparation Canyon State Park in the Loess Hills in western Iowa. If you look closely you can see a narrow trail on top of the ridge stretching as far as you can see. Earlier in the (hot) day we walked this trail which acording to the map was about .9 mile long and circled back close to where we started. We got lost but after a much longer hike than we expected we did make it back. It was such a pretty place we decided to go back that night to get some photos at sundown. We were all alone, it was very peaceful (and much cooler). I recommend a visit.

Here is a classic rocks and trail look common in the CCC/WPA builds in those parks supported by their efforts in the 1930s. This one is from Richfield County Park in Genesee County, Michigan. It is similar to such configurations I saw in Shenandoah National Park, both founded in 1935.

What would you do if you see someone carving letters into a tree ?
This is a trail to Gem Lake. I was hiking here yesterday when I saw a man was carving his name or whatever into a beautiful aspen tree. There were lots of other hikers, but they just passed by without paying attentions. What would you do if you see it, especially if you a woman who is hiking alone and the stranger ( not a kid or teenager, but total growing up adult) is 2 times bigger than you are and had a knife in his hand ?
Took a hike in Cascades Conservation Area. All the trails are coded with colors. Today, I chose the yellow trail.

The 13 kilometer long Cape Split Trail in Nova Scotia takes you along a narrow peninsula through mature hardwood forests to an incredible lookout over the Bay of Fundy. Several high rocky promontories at the end of the trail are home to local seabirds and provide ample opportunities for interesting photographs.

The Ivestor Gap Trail is one of a number of trails which travel from the direction of the Blue Ridge Parkway into the Shining Rock Wilderness near Black Balsam. An old road bed, it manages to make a fairly level trek around peaks like Black Balsam and Tennent Mountain, but its rocky footing doesn't provide as easy of a trek as some might find on a return from peak bagging.
The Virginia Creeper Trail is a 35-mile multi-purpose rail trail. Located in southwestern Virginia, the trail runs from Abingdon to Whitetop, Virginia, near Mount Rogers National Recreation Area and the North Carolina state line.
I haven't really gone out to take pictures for myself in a while so I decided to do some star trails on a suprisingly warm night here in Peoria, IL.
I found this abandoned barn out in the middle of nowhere away from any potential light polution. Set my camera to shoot in 30 second intervals and went in the car for about 40 minutes. I stacked all the images in CS5 and I came out with this beauty. I honestly got lucky putting the North Star into the frame because I thought I was aiming East when I took it.
Not bad for my first attempt, and I think I found a new passion in photography. Don't you just love this hobby?
