The 2,200 mile trail from Maine to Georgia is thru-hiked by very few people; more do it in segments, and many more of us only have the opportunity to do a few sections. Ours was in the Shenandoah National Park in Virginia, and even the short segment we did provided amazing views across the mountains. Birds, and wildlife are abundant. One hiker I came across had encountered 13 black bear in three days.

From Wikipedia: Cinque Terre is a string of centuries-old seaside villages on the rugged Italian Riviera coastline. In each of the 5 towns, colorful houses and vineyards cling to steep terraces, harbors are filled with fishing boats and trattorias turn out seafood specialties along with the Liguria region’s famous sauce, pesto. The Sentiero Azzurro cliffside hiking trail links the villages and offers sweeping sea vistas.

From my late April trip to the island of Oahu in Hawai'i: This is the stream that runs adjacent to the trail that leads to Manoa Falls. Larger is better and much less "crunchy"

Okolehao Trail is referred to as “The Puffer”. It gains 1250 feet in 2.5 miles. The first 2/3 of a mile the Okolehao Trail is really the remains of an old dirt road. You climb, climb, climb. The footing is generally good unless a good rain came through recently. There are 2 major plateau’s on the trail. The first nice overlook
is at 2/3 miles next to the tall powerline pole. At the one mile mark look for this unusual tree that I call “Woody”. Keep climbing another 5 minutes and you reach the first plateau which is flat and has "ti" plants on it. You have sweeping views of Hanalei Bay, Hanalei Pier (South Pacific), the Kilauea Lighthouse, Princeville, the taro fields you left behind, and Bali Hai. The next .25 of a mile is pretty flat then at the 1.5 mile mark it turns steep again and is far more muddy but the reward is ahead.
At the “END” of the Okolehao Trail is another plateau and you see everything you did before plus the Hanalei River coming out of the mountain valley and a close up view of all the mountains including Wai’ale’ale. In total you see 1/5 of the entire island!
You will find the Okolehao Trail off the main road from Princeville. Go toward Kee Beach on 560 leaving Princeville. Once you get to the bottom of the hill and cross the first one lane bridge take an immediate left by the taro fields. You will go down the road about ½ a mile to a parking lot across from the start of the trail. There are usually plenty of hiking sticks leaning against the bridge.
Don’t forget to stop at the Hanalei Overlook on the way back up the hill to see where you climbed.
This trail skirted Iceberg Lake and a beautiful field of wildflowers. EV locked in, maxing out my shutter speed while minimizing DOF, I was just about to take the shot when I heard this pup coming down the trail. I knew his owners wouldn't be far behind, and thought the would make a good addition to the scene.
Maybe they knew they were in the photo, or thought that I was trained on the wildflowers.....either way, they passed with a smile and I came back with an image I really like.

Atalanti national path. The trail goes around Chionistra mountain at an altitude of 1,700¬-1,750 metres, passing through dense areas of black pine trees and Foetid Juniper. One of the largest trees ¬ Foetid Juniper ¬ is found on the trail; it is 800 years old. There are wonderful views of all the areas of the island. The entrance tunnel of the chrome mine ¬ which has been out of service since 1982 is particularly interesting.

Boulder Valley Ranch trail in north Boulder, Colorado. I often hike this trail at lunch (2 hour lunch) for exercise.
The bottom sign is posted at nearly every road crossing along the trail. The one above is the official logo.
2nd shot atop of the bridge, was a bit of a mission to get this shot as my tripod wasn't quite high enough to reach over the top of the barrier, so I had to wedge it in. Couple points to note, this is only the second time i've done this so you'll have to excuse the bluring of the head lights at the top and I need to work on my timing to get all three lanes on each carridgeway with light trails! next time eh :D
This star trail was taken at Girraween National Park as part of the camping trip with the Brisbane Meetup group.
45 minutes at F5.6. Noise reduction not turned on, as it was getting late and I wasn't sure about shooting Star trails.
I do like this composition and the reflection in the water for a first decent attempt at Star Trails
