One of the most convenient amenities for students and residents at The Waters is the Trail to Education, a path that leads directly from The Waters to the Pike Road Elementary School. The trail is accessible by foot, bike — and even golf cart. It is open year-round and offers students and parents a safe car-free route between home and school.

An old iron bridge over the Nutrook trail, a former railway now converted to a cycleway / footpath that I often use to get to work. This was the first time I had seen the sun on my ride to work since early December, the days are getting noticeably longer every day.

Trail through Hoh Rainforest (not far from Visitor's Center.) 1st trip to Seattle, 2003.

It was -20 F the morning of this shot. I like this perspective. The trail goes on forever leading your eye deeper and deeper into the image.

Loop trail around Burnaby lake. Lots of birds and a few beaver.

Just the coolest thing...the actual, historical Oregon Trail, with wagon wheel ruts preserved in standstone.

I heard another visitor mention that the cut of the trail through the stone was so deep because they would actually lock the wheels and pull wagons over this stone hill to prevent run-away wagons. Makes sense, though I haven't found corroborating evidence on the interwebs.

Another city, another year, another character trail. Following on from their “Shaun the Sheep” Trail, Bristol have this year, organized a Wallace & Gromit themed trail in aid of the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children. This one is cleverly entitled “Game of Cones”.

The kids are back in school today, so this weekend my buddy @ReggieMiller and I decided to take one last ride up on Union Pass before things get too busy. We have both been on many of the trails in the area, but it was our first chance to head up to Moon Lake. So, we packed up the 4 wheelers, some snacks, our two youngest kiddos and away we went.

I enjoy these types of trips most of all. Ones where you are out to "see what there is to see". Trying to find out what is just around that next corner or over that next hill. Pictured is a bit of what we found...a fun trail, spectacular high mountain scenery, with some fishing and photography mixed in.

The more of these mountains I see, the more I realize I haven't seen anything.

This is emblematic of Cape Breton Island to me: the rocky shoreline, the sharp hills, the curvy road cut into the cliffs.

The Honopu Ridge Trail winds it's way through dark forests, thick vegetation, and along ridgetops, as it leads to a stunning viewpoint. It is best to wear light long pants or the ferns will be scraping across your legs for the first mile. There is a good bit of descent in the first mile and a half, it's not that much different than many of the ridges in the area. The trail is not officially maintained or marked so you must climb over or under many fallen trees, and climb down steep slopes. Honopu Ridge Trail is a 4.6 mile hike that takes you to incredible views of Honopu Valley and a portion of the Na Pali Coastline. The trail drops about 1,650ft in elevation from the trailhead to the ridge.

We started the hike at 7:00am and ended at 10:30 am.
