Me, my hubby and our son visited Viikinsaari island today. It was a very warm day and the island was just the place to be - very refreshing.
The boatride from the city centre takes only 15 minutes and it's a lovely place with a nature trail around the island, beaches, barbeque places, a restaurant and a grill, a playground for the kids and many other possibilities for outdoor activities. There's even a tiny chapel! The island is not so big itself either, I think you can walk around it in an hour. See the map.
This is my second attempt ever to shoot star trails. This was shot at the Naples Pier in Florida, USA.
At 6:30 am our guide goes pick you all up from your hotel so you can be transported by bus to Km 82 where we arrive at approximately 10 am. Here we are happy to present you the team that is going to accompany us during this Machu Picchu HIKE tour, such as the insanely strong porters, the camp assistants, or even the various and talented cooks. We can begin our hike.
This first day is pretty easy for the first kilometers; we could enjoy a beautiful view of Mount Veronica and trek along the river Vilcanota until the Patallacta's archaeological site. After lunch we continue until Huayllabamba where we set up our camp for the night.

Kuilau Ridge Trail is a very nice hike. The first part is on an asphalt base path that has a gentle incline. The path continues to be wide and un-rutted but still muddy in spots. After about 30-40 minutes, the 1 mile mark, you will reach a small grassy picnic area overlooking a valley. You can see Mt. Wai’ale’ale and the Makaleha Mountains if it’s clear. Across the first valley you will see powerlines which follow the Kualapa Ridge. The Powerline Trail follow these power poles across the island. From the right side of the clearing looking east you will see the trail switchbacking below you where the Kuilau Ridge Trail ends and the Moalepe Trail begins. Continue down the path to the right
to see winding, rolling hills and a view to the Nounou Mountains and ocean. Once you reach the wooden bridge (Opaekaa Stream) you reach the end of the Kuilau Ridge Trail and the start of the Moalepe Trail.
To get to Kuilau Ridge Trail you continue to drive past Opaekaa Falls to the end of the road. Just before you get to the Keahua Forest Arboretum and the first stream crossing. The trail is on the right. Total round
trip distance is 4 1/2 miles and 760 feet elevation change.

One of the most convenient amenities for students and residents at The Waters is the Trail to Education, a path that leads directly from The Waters to the Pike Road Elementary School. The trail is accessible by foot, bike — and even golf cart. It is open year-round and offers students and parents a safe car-free route between home and school.
It’s the coolest car-pool line around!

Inca Trail FIRST DAY: CUSCO - PISKACUCHO - WAYLLABAMBA
We will leave from Cusco and travel to Urubamba where we will stop briefly at Ollaytaytambo where you can buy last minute gear and personal needing, then we move on to Piskacuchu (Km 82) and the start of the Inca Trail . We will have lunch at Miskay and relax a bit before hiking to our first campsite. Huayllabamba,Along the way we will see the first and the biggest archeological site of the Inca Trail patallaqta
The Kealia Trail starts at Dillingham Airfield and quickly climbs with 19 switch backs. Here you can see quite a lot of O'ahu's north shore.
Ultimately, the hike took me up 2000 ft over 3.5 miles (and then back down again). It was therefore harder than my standard go-to hike and I felt rather tired from its relentless uphill slog.
If you are paying attention, you would remember that my accommodation was on the west side so I drove a ways to get here. It was partly because I wanted to do this hike but also because I couldn't find any fresh local fruit in Waianae and the restaurants weren't all that great there. I decided to shop and splurge on a fancy meal in Haleiwa, a fantastic North Shore town.
Short hike from the upper end of Saddle Mountain Trail. The trail is located on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, in the Saddle Mountain Wilderness in the Kaibab National Forest. A fire near Pt. Imperial Trail had that trail closed.
On the night of the lunar eclipse, Buffalo River State Park near Glyndon, MN had a candle lit ski/hike event. The trails were lined with candles in ice globes which made for a lovely atmosphere with the moonlit sky.
Willow Hole Trail offers a great variety of vegetation along the way: Pinyon Pines, Yuccas, Cholla, Sage, you name it. A fun trail in Joshua Tree National Park.
The early morning mist was still rising along this lovely trail near the Big Trees Lodge (old Wawona Lodge), Yosemite National Park.
The murmuration of starling as seen from Brighton sea front, but processed to retain the trails of the birds.

Mosaic Canyon is a canyon in the north western mountain face of the valley which is named after a stream-derived breccia sediment with angular blocks of dolomite in a pebbly matrix. The entrance to Mosaic Canyon appears deceptively ordinary, but just a 1/4 mile (400m) walk up the canyon narrows dramatically to a deep slot cut into the face of Tucki Mountain. Smooth, polished marble walls enclose the trail as it follows the canyon's sinuous curves. The canyon follows faults that formed when the rocky crust of the Death Valley region began stretching just a few million years ago. Running water scoured away at the fault-weakened rock, gradually carving Mosaic canyon.
Periodic flash floods carry rocky debris (sediment) eroded from Mosaic Canyon and the surrounding hillsides toward the valley below. At the canyon mouth water spreads out and deposits its sediment load, gradually building up a large wedge-shaped alluvial fan that extends down toward Stovepipe Wells. This canyon was formed through a process of cut and fill which included periodic erosive floods followed by long periods of deposition and uplift. But due to the uplift when the next flood hit the area it would deeply cut the streambed which forms stair step-shaped banks.

Mosaic Canyon's polished marble walls are carved from the Noonday Dolomite and other Precambrian carbonate rocks. These rock formation began as limestone deposited during Late Precambrian (about 850-700 million years ago) when the area was covered by a warm sea. Later addition of magnesium changed the limestone, a rock made of calcium carbonate, to dolomite, a calcium-magnesium carbonate. The dolomite was later deeply buried by younger sediment. Far below the surface, high pressure and temperature altered the dolomite into the metamorphic rock, marble. The Noonday Dolomite has since been tilted from uplift.
Mosaic Canyon was named for a rock formation known as the Mosaic Breccia. Breccia is an Italian word meaning gravel. This formation is composed of angular fragments of many different kinds of parent rock, and it can be seen on the floor of the canyon just south of the parking area.

A local built this memorial to the Trail of Tears, which went through the area. It sits abandoned. The exact location is on the road between I-44 and Jerome, Missouri.
Gibbsboro NJ has an excellent network of bike/hiking trails throughout the town. This is a map posted along one of the routes.
