Jeff B., one of my favorite Disney Photographers, took a shot very similar to this that was the inspiration for this photo. Until I saw Jeff's photo, I had never even noticed these conveyor belts overhead when exiting Test Track.

69/365. (Nice.) Ahhh, Monday. A perfectly cromulent work day, followed by us both crashing SO hard when we got home. But it was absolutely gloriously perfect out, so we did the unthinkable: took 20-minute naps, and THEN took a track-and-back walk! Madness! The evening seemed to last forever, with time for all that, time to make dinner and cut dahlias (so nice to have them back in the kitchen again!), time to watch the Bernies suck against the Dodgers and then switch to a rain-delayed Metsies blow-out loss, time for ice cream, and time TO START SLIMAMENTS!!!!! It is ON! (Meanwhile, Hoxie took great strides today with his snuggliness -- he was super-cuddly after a Hoxbury Flop in S's bathroom last night, and she took him into P's bed to continue increasingly manic skritches while P folded laundry. Today he had it figured out that he could go to a bed for his snuggles instead of inconveniently just on the bathroom floor!)

Here is the tracker control system in its deployment configuration – the card is the same size as an Arduino Uno . Socket at left holds the Arduino Pro Mini clone (ATmega328 5V 16Mhz). Socket at right holds the A4988 Stepper Motor Driver Carrier. Single 2-pole screw terminal block, right front, connects to the HOME sensor switch. The pair of 2-pole screw terminal blocks, right rear, connect to the four leads of the stepper motor.

The 6-pin right-angle header on the nearside of the Arduino Pro Mini clone can be connected to a USB-to-Serial converter, but is only used to download programs from a PC onto the Arduino.

Note the 9 VDC battery cap. I intend to power this system from an external power tank, because I plan to add a current hungry, FET-driven, anti-dew heater controller to the empty real estate on the board. However, for the time being, what with the stepper motor being powered at a 0.8% duty cycle, I actually think I can run the tracker for several hours on a standard 9V battery.

Finke Gorge National Park is located in the central Australian desert country south west from Alice Springs. Access is along a rough sandy track which follows the Finke River. You have to drive over rocks so need a high clearance 4WD vehicle. It is the most beautiful place in Australia.
