USS Yorktown (CV-10) Aircraft Carrier
Introduced in 1954, the S-2 Tracker was designed to find, follow and if necessary kill enemy submarines. Spanning three decades, the primary purpose of the S-2 was to be a thorn in the side of Soviet submarines. Originally designated the S-2F-1, it didn't take long for e Tracker crews to come up with the nickname STOOF (as in S-2-F).
A fixture on Essex class carriers like USS Yorktown, the S-2 expanded sub hunting to the open ocean in ways land based brethren like the P-3 Orion could not. The S-2 could turn into an offensive weapon, armed with a combination of torpedoes, rockets, mines and depth charges.
My sister-in-law went on a little field trip last night around our local downtown and practiced again shooting in manual.
It was a tad bit cold, but fun - I'm anxious to go again now.
The only thing I did to this set of photos was run hard light on them.
I posted this because it is the only track that I have seen in which you have lanes A & B, which creates havoc when walkers disregard the sign and walk in the inside and then have to cut across lane 1 at the end of the straight-away, where lanes A & B end.
As far as I could tell, these marks in the sand were entirely from water receding. The "fake tyre tracks" were particularly interesting.
Piccadilly single track figure of eight tinplate roadway with traffic lights. Although this is marked 'Foreign' I suspect it is made in Germany, and I have seen a suggestion that it is by Technofix, an export version of their no. 239 – any further information very welcome. 'Provisional Patent 8502/36'. The width of the roadway is similar to the Tippco Reichsautobahn and the Marx systems.
Track Frame handmade by o. Jaekel and ridden by him at the olympic games back in the 80is---full columbus record tubing, overall very nice condition, fine chrome, very tight geometrie. Size: seattube- 55,5cm/toptube 55,5cm! incl. rino headset!

Product of a lunchtime walk today. Nice weather and a great path.
These tracks are the home of the longest train in the world,the iron ore train between Sischen and Saldanha averaging a length of 4km but according to the Guinness Book of Records can reach 7.5 km long.This is a crossing over the Berg River near Velddrif.
Seen at the Liberty Aviation Museum in Port Clinton, Ohio. From the Museum’s description:
“The M3 half-track is an armored personnel carrier that was used extensively by the U.S. Army and its Allies during WW2 … This particular M3 was produced by the White Motor Company of Cleveland, Ohio.
After the War many M3’s continued to see active service with numerous Armed Forces all over the World with some still in use to this day. This particular half-track was operated by the Israeli Defense Force and modified with the addition of a 30 caliber machine gun installed in place of the passenger front window. This M3 saw extensive service with the IDF and was actively involved in numerous combat engagements. It was sold surplus to the current owner who restored it to its original WWII U.S. Army configuration while retaining the IDF installed 30 cal machine gun passenger window mount …

The front roller is designed to keep the vehicle from getting stuck in a ditch or gully or debris by keeping the front end from getting buried. The armor thickness varies from 6-12 mm to protect the crew from small arms fire and shrapnel.

Omas track hubs, NOS but unlaced and never used. The front is 100mm - 180gr and 28 holes, the rear is 120mm - 273gr and 32 holes. Threads are 35 x 24 f. They have sealed ball bearings.
