I'm pretty sure these ugly scars are caused by motor bikes tearing up and down the hills, leaving their tracks everywhere.

I pretty sure about that, as this was in a motorcycle park.

That said, we spotted rather similar tracks quite a distance away that were clearly caused by water, as there was no way any bike would have been able to reach, let alone climb, that particular hill.

Track fork ends. Make the bike go faster too, as they offer no practical advantage over the horizontal drops of a road bike.

But hey: track fork ends!
