We walked along the Lower Portals track for almost an hour through lovely forest before heading up Eagle's Ridge towards Mt Barney. We didn't go all the way, just a short walk this time.
Having moved into my new condo a few weeks ago, the unit is lovely, warm and completed. Stepping outside is a different matter... beyond my little plot of landscaped lawn, I'm living in a construction zone, while more units are under construction. The bulldozers rattle by all day M-F, then leave these interesting ridges for weekend viewing.
Three sets of tracks head toward Folsom and El Dorado Hills. The paired electric line is the Sacramento Light Rail while the third line on the right is the former SP Placerville Branch, now a UP industrial lead that ends at the Hazel Light Rail station. The yellow approach signal is for the switch where tracks merge to form single track for the remainder of the line out to Folsom. The red signal in the distance is a stop indication at that switch for an approaching westbound movement. The UP branch services Schnitzer Steel in the distance, a metals recycling operation, that has been moving weekly carloads of scrap metal. The west-facing switch requires a run around move on tracks just west of Hazel Ave. The weekly turn runs on Monday afternoon.

One of several machines that followed the tie replacement along the NS tracks running past Piketon, Ohio. I shot this in the rain from across busy US 23.
The machine appears to fill in the holes where the ties were replaced. It reminds me of the mowers used along highways.

gave the camera a twist with a 1/20 shutter. Overgrown railroad tracks through the woods in Monroe, WA.
A wondeful characterful laden Oak curves and leans into the track, its old branches and new leaves laden with life.
This is what a GPS vehicle tracker looks like. It gets buried in the vehicle and when activated, will alert you with its location via various means when prompted, or if the vehicle is moved without permission.
Thankfully it comes with instructions.
