Along the track at The North York moors railway, and no the trains were not running as it was out of season.
Waiting on a westbound train just outside of Battle Creek a few weeks ago, I wondered what I was hearing in the distance with a rather sickly-sounding K3L horn. Then, this thing pops into view! A battle-weary GP38-2W leading 2 boxcars of track inspection instruments along with their accompanying support coach. I think this was the first time I ever saw a GP38-2W, since they seem to largely stick to Canada.

Track replacemet curently underway in Barmouth, the final stage of Network Rail's renovation project, scheduled to be finished for this weekend.
This was shot hand held. In order to get steady bracketed exposures I leaned against a concrete wall. The shot was taken at Chicago's Union station and made into an HDR with CS3 then tone mapped with Photomatix.
I shot this the same day that I got Tracks and Cables, and to point out that I was firmly placed on the public part of the footbridge when taking this :-)
This view of the railroad tracks in Orange, Virginia, passes the old train station on the right before crossing Main Street in the middle of downtown. Although passenger trains no longer stop at the station, Amtrak's Northeast Regional line comes through Orange after stopping in Charlottesville or Culpeper. The station is now home to the Orange County Department of Tourism and Visitor's Bureau. Information from Virginia's tourism website.
