Maybe this picture can explain because I'd hate to miss my franconian homeland at every season without visiting it, especially in autumn...
Taken at Schwarzer Brand" near to Hirschbach and Neutras, Frankenjura - Germany
“A large drop of sun lingered on the horizon and then dripped over and was gone, and the sky was brilliant over the spot where it had gone, and a torn cloud, like a bloody rag, hung over the spot of its going.... "
― John Steinbeck, The Grapes of Wrath
Ranunculus!! I LOVE these...their layers, swirling petals, even their stems... Hope you enjoy too!
March 2009.
I decided to grow some black (as described on the packet!) sunflowers to add to the garden this year & chose 2 different varieties. I sowed 6 seeds of each variety & they all germinated nicely & I planted them in the garden only to have them completely taken out by the slugs (greedy pigs)! So I repeated the excercise & ended up with 12 more sunflowers which I duly planted out. This is the sole survivor (slugs again) which is just about to bloom. I'll post another shot when it's blossomed fully, that's if I can get to it before the slugs do lol!
More luck was there at this great panorama view that looks a little bit like www.flickr.com/photos/115540984@N02/24499566552. It is between Banff and Lake Louise, and late in the evening I arrived here. At that moment it was not much, but when the sun came out the whole landscape exploded! And then came the helicopter, who dropped a woman here. I wonder where she was from or what had happened. Was it just a way to do shoppings?
From 11 june till the 25th of July, I traveled in Canada. Starting in Brighton Ontario, where my sister lives at the border of an amazing part of lake Ontario, I flew to Vancouver, and Vancouver island where I took the boat at Port Hardy to take part 1 of the Inside passage, to Prince Rupert in BC. Two days later I took part 2 to Skagway in Alaska, from where i took a scenic train through the Rockies to Whitehorse and further on by car to Kluane National park in the Yukon district. Whitehorse is situated at the border of the Yukon. Frow there I flew back to Vancouver, rented a car, and traveled three weeks in the BC- and Alberta Rockies, visiting the famous, and less famous Nature parks like Banff and Jasper. Last few days back to Brighton Ontario to enjoy lake Ontario once more, before going home. A picture of my itinerary can be found on Facebook (www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10152940536581759&set...).
4000 pictures later, it is quite a task to show the right stuff, although the stunning scenery guarantees at least a few great shots to share. Objective will be to make a book (for myself mainly), and that might take a while.
I hope you will enjoy the impression of my travel, one that equals earlier journeys to Alaska and south America, this journey was the first in the digital era, and equally intensive because of all the hiking activities every day on and on. I loved every minute of it.
Sometimes we just don't take the easy way!
Many Many thanks for all the wonderful people I have "met" here on flickr as I approach my 1 year anniversary on flickr!

Taken during yesterdays snowstorm. Amazingly, the 5-6 inches of snow we got is already gone.
Slight ToneMapping, and several textures used (Skeletal Mess, Lenabam-Anna, Clive-Sax)
Thanks you for your friendship and kindness.
I wish all a lot of good luck and gladness in the new year.
Up to a meeting in two weeks, my dear friends!
For the Smile on Saturday challenge: "Herbs"
We grow a few herbs in our garden, and cut them for cooking, along with salad greens, or as fragrances with calming and healing properties. It's not the best time for them at the moment, as the chives have finished flowering, and the lavender is only just beginning to form tiny buds, but I cut a little of both ;o)
