This is Tiny Dancer, AKA Michelle Shealy , an AT thru-hiker. She has the determined look on her face that only a thru-hiker can understand. We met at Elk Garden where the AT crosses VA600. There was a group of hikers there and it was their 2nd day out from Trail Days in Damascus. And if you do the math, they hiked 30 miles that first day to get here. Being a former thru-hiker it's always easy to strike up a conversation. And as always on the AT the talk revolves around the hike, food, the weather, food, trail conditions, food, aches and pains, food, i.e. the everyday stuff. Tiny Dancer and Salty were together as a couple, and they married the following year. They both summited Mt. Katahdin in Maine about 3-1/2 months later.
I took photos of 8 hikers that morning. They gave me email addresses and about 5 months later, figuring they should have finished the trail, I sent them the photos.
These shots were taken using a Minolta 5400 flash mounted on a bar to the side of the camera. I used 100 ASA film and in retrospect I should have been using at least 400.

Taken 10/12/11 on my wedding anniverary wich happened to coincide with the lunar eclipse. Bijou and I had a wonderfull greek dinner with a bottle of Torbreck Woodcutters Shiraz before heading up to Observatory Hill to watch the eclipse. She is such a champ for allowing me to indulge in my astronomy hobby on this important day. Alas the weather was not with us as cloud cover ruined the view. On the return trip to our hotel room we passed through this tunnel under the Sydney Horbour Bridge and I asked Bijou to walk ahead of me as i really liked the play of the lines on the walls. Taken with Canon 500D and 15mm EF 2.8 Fisheye
Tiny treat bags pattern by Monica Solorio-Snow. So quick and easy and oh so cute. They just happen to be the perfect size for gifting my handmade christmas ornaments.
Very young Common Toad. Only a few weeks before, it was a tadpole. Now, it must feed to build reserves for its winter hibernation in some recess away from the reach of frost.
